Sobre nosotros
ALBA is the only synchrotron light source in Spain. It is a complex of electron accelerators to produce synchrotron light, which allows visualization of the atomic structure of matter as well as the study of its properties. ALBA is in operation since May 2012 and has 10 beamlines which are able to perform experiments in different scientific fields: physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials science, cultural heritage, biology, nanotechnology,... Three new beamlines are in construction. This scientific infrastructure produces about 6.000 hours of beamtime per year and is available for the academic and the industrial sector to give service to more than 2.000 researchers every year.

🔵 #synchrotronscience Novel strategy to reduce #antibiotic resistance in a #superbug 🦠 👉 https://lnkd.in/dzxc8v9D A study, published in the cover of the April issue of Nature Chemical Biology, has designed a compound that prevents the activation of #resistance in the bacterium "Staphylococcus aureus". This discovery, tested in mice, is a significant advance in the fight against #infections caused by this pathogen, which has a very high incidence in hospitals. The research, led by the Instituto de Física Química Blas Cabrera CSIC and the University of Notre Dame (USA), used data obtained at the XALOC beamline at the #ALBASynchrotron.

Register for the LEAPS Meets Advanced Materials for Energy 2025 conference! 📅May 18-23, 2025 📍 Sopot The Conference organized by the Centrum SOLARIS on behalf of LEAPS - League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources , will gather representatives from 16 European synchrotron infrastructures and industry representatives to jointly discuss the future of energy in Poland and Europe. Each spring, ALBA hosts part of the Annual HERCULES School for students and young researchers in the field of Neutrons, X-ray Synchrotron Radiation, and Free Electron Lasers for condensed matter studies: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Geosciences or Industrial applications.
