🌍 Research shows that a 4-day work week can boost productivity and improve employee well-being. Here’s a look at some countries that have implemented or are testing this approach: Countries Embracing the 4-Day Work Week 1. Belgium In 2022, Belgium introduced a 4-day work week policy, giving employees the option to work four days or stick to traditional hours. However, the total working hours remain the same, requiring longer days. 2.UK A trial in the UK involved 61 companies and over 3,300 employees, led by researchers from Cambridge and Oxford Universities. The six-month pilot was successful, with most companies choosing to keep the 4-day work week. 3. South Korea South Korea is set to discuss labor reform legislation that includes a 4-day work week. The focus is on improving work-life balance and increasing flexibility. 4. Iceland Iceland ran a 35-36 hour workweek pilot from 2015 to 2019, involving 2,500 participants. The trial led to negotiations for reduced working hours. 5. Japan Since 2021, Japan has been exploring ways to reduce working hours. The "Hatariakikata Kaikaku" campaign encourages businesses to adopt shorter work hours, flexible schedules, and paid leave. 6. Spain In 2022, Spain began a trial for a 4-day work week with full-time workers. The policy has improved worker health and reduced fuel emissions. 7. Scotland Scotland launched a 4-day work week trial for civil servants in January 2024, with nearly 140 public servants participating. 8. Portugal In June 2023, Portugal partnered with 4 Day Week Global to trial a 4-day work week, involving around 39 private companies. 9. Denmark Denmark has one of the shortest average work weeks globally, at 33 hours, but has not officially adopted a 4-day work week. 10.
