🚀 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 At TICRA, we are exploring how machine learning and data-driven methods can enhance our customers' design processes – particularly for complex, compute-intensive challenges. We have several exciting initiatives underway in this space, and recently had the opportunity to share some of this work at EuCAP 2025 in Stockholm 🇸🇪. 📝 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿, "𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴," introduces a new optimisation framework that leverages Bayesian Optimisation and High-Order Gaussian Processes to address some of the most demanding challenges in antenna design – where traditional methods often fall short due to high simulation costs, black-box objectives, or conflicting performance criteria. 🔍 𝗜𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿, 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱: • Designing a broadband multi-section corrugated horn with a flat-top radiation pattern across multiple frequencies • Balancing trade-offs between gain and return loss in a dual-reflector system using multi-objective optimisation • Accelerating parameter sweeps over multiple design variables 💡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁? Our approach intelligently selects the most informative designs, significantly reducing the number of expensive simulations and speeding up computations—without compromising design quality. 🤝 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 – from how to apply AI in design tools to overcoming practical challenges in simulation-driven workflows. Led by Andreas Ericsson and Mark Whale, the course explored how reflectarrays, transmitarrays, and frequency-selective surfaces (FSS) enable high-performance antennas for 5G/6G, satellite communications, and reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technologies. Participants gained insights into design fundamentals, key application areas, and hands-on exercises using TICRA Tools Student Edition. Throughout the session, we had fantastic discussions with participants, who brought up insightful questions such as: ❓ 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘢 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘴𝘪-𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘤 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦? ✅ Yes, using the commercial version of QUPES and GRASP. ❓ 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘛𝘐𝘊𝘙𝘈 𝘛𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘌𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘩𝘋 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘴? ✅ Absolutely! We are happy to provide example cases. ❓ 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘍𝘚𝘚 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘤 𝘍𝘚𝘚 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘦? ✅ Spatially varying element layouts enable fine-tuned performance, reducing sidelobes, cross-polarization, and interference. It was fantastic to see so much engagement and curiosity from the participants! A big thank you to all attendees for their enthusiasm and active participation. We also extend our thanks to EuCAP for hosting us—we truly enjoyed the experience! #EuCAP2025 #Reflectarrays #ReconfigurableIntelligentSurfaces #AntennaDesign #TICRA #Teaching
