Sønderborg Airport leads the way with Denmark’s first Digital Tower 🚀 Sønderborg Airport has selected Saab to deliver its new Digital Tower solution, making us the first airport in Denmark to implement this cutting-edge technology. The solution enhances operational efficiency, eliminates the need for a new physical control tower, and ensures that all local air traffic control jobs are retained. “This is a historic step for our airport and the region,” says our CEO Jákup Sverri Kass. With Saab’s Digital Tower, we are modernizing in a way that boosts efficiency while maintaining strong local connections.

Sonderborg Airport is gearing up for 2025 with a record number of destinations ✈️   November 2024 saw a 12% increase in passenger numbers, with a total growth of 15% for the year. This growth is driven by increased departures from Alsie Express and strong cooperation with Neubauer Reisen.   2025 will see Sonderborg Airport offering the widest range of destinations in years. In addition to the popular routes to Copenhagen and Bornholm, there will be charter flights to 16 other destinations, including Barcelona, Sicily, and Montenegro.   Exciting plans are also in the works for a new terminal, designed by renowned architect J. Record-breaking increase in passenger-figures at Sønderborg Airport ✈️ In October, Sønderborg Airport had 54% more passengers compared to last year. A major explanation for the increase in passenger numbers in October has been that Alsie Express has added more departures around the autumn holidays, and this has had a positive effect and contributed to more tourists to the city and the region. In addition, German Neubauer Reisen GmbH has had two charter flights to southern destinations with their Boeing 737-800.  In the first ten months of the year, the South Jutland airport has had over 47,000 passengers – a total increase of 15 per cent compared to the same period last year. "The airport would like to be a significant player in promoting and enabling transport opportunities for the regional business community, as well as help promote tourism in the area. We are in constant dialogue with current and potential new players about promoting the interests of South Jutland," says Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO of Sønderborg Airport. Sønderborg Airport is busier than it has been for many years. In addition to the record-high passenger growth, there is a lot of activity around the actual modernization of the airport itself. The four invited architectural firms participating in the airport's architectural competition had until 1 November to submit their ideas for the future terminal building, and all four architectural firms have submitted their bids. Sonderborg Airport records highest passenger growth since 2019 🚀 Ambitious Sønderborg Airport had 25% more passengers in September than the same time last year. In the first nine months of 2024, the airport in Southern Jutland had almost 41,000 passengers - a total increase of 10.5% compared to the same period last year. There is a high level of activity at Sønderborg Airport, building on the passenger growth while the modernization process at the airport is progressing as planned. The upgrade of the technical infrastructure at the apron is nearing completion, and this winter and spring, work will begin on the airport itself. Four architectural firms have been invited to participate in the airport's architectural competition, and the deadline for submitting their ideas for the design of the future airport is early November 2024. The publication of the winning architectural proposal is expected to take place around the turn of the year. "The passenger growth is due to an increase in the route between Sønderborg and Copenhagen, as well as an increase in charter activity. In addition to Alsie Express, which primarily flies between Sønderborg and Copenhagen, German Neubauer Reisen has record-high activity in the form of direct charter flights with their Airbus 320 from Sønderborg to Southern European destinations," says Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO of Sønderborg Airport. And Sønderborg Airport expects further activity in 2025, when the airport hopes for even more direct charter flights from Sønderborg to southern and western destinations. "We have ambitions to expand our catchment area to include northern Germany and all the way to Odense. For this to succeed, we need to be able to offer the right destinations at the right price, and that work is underway," says Jákup Sverri Kass.
