Satu Lakanen, Quality Controller at the Hyvinkää bakery in Finland, has been working with us for an impressive 31 years! Having worked for the same bakery for a long time, Satu can list several reasons why Unibake is the employer of choice for her 😋 💡 I’ve been able to develop myself and progress in my baking career. The first 25 years of my career I worked in the packaging area. About five years ago I changed to quality control, where I can use my expertise from my previous role. Who knows, maybe I'll take on another role in the future 🌟 👌 With the integration of Myllyn Paras frozen business into Unibake in 2023, Hyvinkää bakery employees now have more opportunities for career development in the bakery and within the larger Unibake organization. In addition, food safety and other operations in the bakery have developed further since the integration. 👩🍳 In my role, I take care of food safety and sustainability every day. My job is to make sure that others at the bakery also do their part, for example, by training our production employees regularly about food safety and diligence, because possible mistakes in production quickly multiply into bigger issues, affecting everyone's work. I feel that my work has a great impact on the food quality and safety. 🤝 Cooperation and openness are at the essence of our bakery operations. When changes are made in cooperation and listening to everyone's opinions, people are more committed to follow the new practices. 💗 Unibake has a good team spirit and great colleagues to work with. I have made lifelong friendships in Hyvinkää. Rye – a wholegrain powerhouse for blood sugar and satiety 😋 New research from Chalmers University of Technology shows that wholegrain rye can help regulate blood sugar and keep you feeling fuller for longer. In clinical trials, participants who swapped sifted wheat for wholegrain rye reported: ✅ Less hunger ✅ Higher satiety ✅ Lower levels of the “hunger hormone” ghrelin ✅ Reduced low-grade inflammation The kicker? These benefits were especially noticeable in individuals with elevated inflammation and insulin resistance showing that rye might be more than just healthy. It might be targeted nutrition. We at Unibake believe in the power of all generations to increase creativity, foster inclusiveness, and attract employees of different ages, cultures and languages. Dmitri Strelnikov and Edward Putrin from the warehouse team of the Saue bakery, Estonia, have been working together for over 6 months now. Both have extensive experience in warehouse work: Dmitri as the Warehouse Manager with than 20 years in warehouse work and 2 years at Unibake leads the warehouse team. Edward with 7 years in the field joined his team recently as a Logistics Specialist. Despite their short time together, they feel that they share a lot of similarities: both are hardworking and willing to help. ✅👌 💬 Edward values Dmitri’s communication skills and support for their team, whereas Dmitri has full trust on Edward and gives him free hands in his role: “I trust that Edward will let me know if there are issues, and together as a team we can find a solution to any problem”. 💬 At some companies, the warehouse work might be a little lonely. According to Edward, the warehouse team of 12 has given him the possibility to learn to work as a team. 🙌 💬 In a team that utilizes Russian, Estonian and English in their daily communication, teamwork is based on trust and constant communication which is not limited to the warehouse team only. “Communication between different functions is equally important. I always consider how my decisions might affect my colleagues’ work at different areas of the business.
