Our AAM Whitepaper was featured in eVTOL Insights. We are pleased that our ongoing work to support the #AAM industry with operational insights using our #trajectory #simulation technology combined with high-resolution #weather data is being widely recognized. In our view, realistic operational planning is particularly important for early #electric #aircraft operations to avoid disappointment of customers/users of these new services and to better manage expectations. Why is this important? ⚡✈️ 🔹 Range limitations – #eVTOL and #electric #aircraft have reduced range due to battery energy density, making route planning critical for high service availability. 🔹 Weather sensitivity – Wind significantly impacts flight time and energy consumption, requiring careful consideration alongside factors like energy reserves and IFR routing requirements. 💡 What’s inside? We analyzed wind impact on flight time for various eVTOL types, considering seasonal variations and altitude effects. 📄 Each year we publish a paper or report, summarizing our thoughts on how simulation technology and data analytics can be used to advance the AAM industry. Following the Service Availability Report and the Icing Report in previous years, this year we will focus on the topic of network design for AAM/vertiports. Why is this important? ⚡✈️ eVTOL and electric aircraft in general have a limited range due to the lower energy density of batteries compared to fossil fuel. This, combined with a higher sensitivity to weather effects, creates some challenges when planning initial electric aircraft operations. Distances need to be planned in a way that ensures high service availability to make a viable business case. At the same time, wind has a strong impact on flight time and energy consumption and needs to be considered together with several other requirements such as energy reserve, longer distances when flying IFR, etc. 🔋🌬️ 💡In our whitepaper, we have studied the impact of wind on flight time for different eVTOL types (reflected in different cruising speeds), as well as the seasonal impact or the impact of flying at different altitude levels, based on 3 routes recently published by an eVTOL OEM. We hope this will stimulate some thought in the industry and ensure that proper planning prevents poor performance in the early operations of electric aviation. 🚀 Wrapping Up an Amazing Week at EUROPEAN DRONE FORUM & XPONENTIAL Europe! Currently heading back home to Konstanz with my colleague Michael from four amazing days in Düsseldorf. The past four days have been incredibly packed with insightful panels, engaging presentations, including two from Unisphere GmbH, where we shared how advanced simulation and modeling technologies will enable automated flight operations and vertiport integration in urban areas. 🌆🚁 Using the time on the train to reflect, I have to say—this was one of the best drone events I've attended in recent years (and as many of you know, I’ve been to quite a few😉). The event had a great mix of content, valuable networking opportunities, and amazing exhibitors showcasing the latest advancements in unmanned aviation. ✈️ My Two Main Takeaways 👏 Europe needs a lighthouse event like this, and for its first edition, it was already a huge success! Big congratulations to UAVDACH - Unmanned Aviation Association, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, and AUVSI — Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International for putting together such a fantastic event. I look forward to the 2026 edition. 🌍 Europe has an amazing drone ecosystem—with a solid regulatory framework, leading edge technological and profound engineering, more and more companies starting professional commercial drone operations, and all the skills needed to take a leading position in unmanned aviation worldwide.
