  • How do ultralight, highly porous aerogels retain their fragile structure during drying? Aerogels are a fascinating class of materials where the liquid phase of a gel is replaced by gas – without collapsing the delicate internal structure. The key to this? Supercritical fluid technology. Our animation breaks down the process – from gel formation to solvent exchange and supercritical drying with CO₂. The drying process with supercritical CO₂ brings several benefits: • Gentle process conditions • Less shrinkage compared to conventional convection/freeze drying • Less critical regarding explosion protection At Uhde High Pressure Technologies, we draw on our extensive experience in designing and commissioning high-pressure systems for aerogel drying.     What began in the 1990s as a small juicing project in a mother's kitchen has grown into one of the leading cold-pressed juice brands in the U.S. Driven by a mission to make healthy living accessible, Arden's Garden built its reputation on fresh, nutrient-rich juices made from natural, plant-based ingredients with no additives or preservatives. But keeping raw juices fresh and safe for distribution posed a challenge in terms of shelf life and food safety. That's where High Pressure Processing (HPP) became a part of Arden's success story. Using cold water pressure instead of heat, HPP inactivates harmful bacteria while preserving the flavor, color, and nutrients of fresh juice. For Arden's Garden, this meant they could stay true to their no-heat, no-preservatives philosophy – while scaling production, extending shelf life, and meeting retail safety standards. The new 350-liter plant is located at Pacific HPP, a tolling company that offers its customers high-pressure processing to safely and gently preserve and extend the shelf life of food products without the use of heat or additives.
