  • Already more than a week ago that SPIE #PhotonicsWest 2025 ended, but memories are still vivid! And the great interest in Lumics - We manufacture diode lasers. and the many inquiries for our products will keep us busy for quite some time still. Thanks to everyone who came to our booth, it was a pleasure to show you around and learn more about your applications and requirements. We saw particular interest for all our products in the 10xx – 20xx nm region, for our class-leading single-mode BTF14 lasers, and for the many combinations of our multi-wavelength LuOcean modules. We proudly followed our colleague Anisuzzaman Boni presenting our latest advancements for our GaSb emitters during the conference. Plus we successfully launched our brandnew 1720nm high power diodes. It was a great show! Thank you SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics and we are already looking forward to joining again next year. Special thanks also to the entire team of EPIC - EUROPEAN PHOTONICS INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM for the many fruitful and perfectly organized networking events.   • Lumics Reveals the Next Generation of Emitter Technology: New 1720nm Wavelength for Direct High-Power Diode Lasers Lumics is again redefining the benchmark and paving the way for customers to develop and manufacture innovative diode laser based devices These 1720nm edge-emitting laser chips are produced in Lumics’ own fab in-house and are carefully burn-in tested to ensure class-leading performance and ultra-long life time. They boost a market-leading conversion efficiency, setting new standards for performance and energy optimization. This new diode laser chip will be integrated into the company’s multi-emitter LuOcean™ products, Lumics’ most successful series of high power fiber coupled diode laser modules The improved proprietary chip design allows for power levels frem few Watt up to impressive 50W out of a 200µm NA0.22 fiber, depending on the package size. Single emitters electrically wired in series allow for low current despite of high power levels, and all modules offer a fiber port for a detachable fiber, as well as customer-selectable signals and sensors. It will be possible to combine the 1720nm wavelengths with other wavelengths in the same module and coupled into the same fiber, yet all of them individually controllable. This wavelength region shows a couple of very interesting absorption peaks so far hardly accessible by diode lasers. Thus this innovative emitter opens up a world of possibilites across numerous fields in medical, lifescience, and industry.   • Remember: Lumics makes single mode BTF14 lasers in the 7xx-15xx nm range with up to 500mW cw (up to 1.2W pulsed peak power). Amongst them some rare-to-get wavelengths in the market, for example: 760nm 200mW, 850nm 200mW, 1080nm 300mW, 1550nm 150mW (all powers cw). Through our own chip fab we have full control over the reliability, performance, and production continuity.     Wavelength Stabilization High-power laser diodes are usually based on a Fabry-Pérot resonator which has no selectivity for wavelength. In this case the output spectrum of the laser diode can vary with operating temperature and current, and can change with operation time, too. Also for some applications a chip to chip variation can hardly be accepted. To overcome these problems a resonator can be formed with a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) which has a narrow reflection spectrum. In this case the operating wavelength is locked by the FBG as well as the spectrum width. #Lumics - We manufacture diode lasers.’offers FBG options for all available wavelengths.     Single Mode Laser Module 14-pin Butterfly The Lumics single-mode laser modules contain an optimized GaAs or InP substrate-based quantum well high-power laser diode. This industry standard 14-pin butterfly package includes a TEC with thermistor and photodiode (PD) power monitor. It has been designed for customer specific applications and is available with special FBG’s and fibers. The extremely stringent reliability requirements are achieved through Lumics - We manufacture diode lasers.’ proprietary patented innovative chip technology. This includes careful design, exactly defined manufacturing and extensive testing. Each laser diode module is individually serialized for traceability and is shipped with a specified set of test data. All devices are RoHS compliant.   • Today Beate Sauter, Martin Eckstein, and Alexander Sperl had the pleasure of welcoming Carlos Lee EPIC Lee, Director General of EPIC - EUROPEAN PHOTONICS INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM, to Lumics - We manufacture diode lasers. It was great to share insights into our 24-years old history of Lumics, and to discuss a number of interesting topics ranging from market and competitor landscape, networking in Photonics, and how crucial the work of EPIC is for creating visibility for its >800 members towards regional and international institutions and governments. We really need this lobby work! We also spoke about Lumics’ portfolio of high power diode lasers and about our most strategic markets in medical/life science and industry.
