Celebrate Supply Chain Day with Lufthansa Cargo! 📦 ✈️
Yesterday, we welcomed customers, partners, and fans to celebrate #SupplyChainDay, offering a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at air freight. With exclusive tours at the airport, 50 participants experienced the complex processes of modern air cargo logistics firsthand and learned how Lufthansa Cargo is preparing itself for a future-oriented logistics chain, true to its mission of 'Enabling Global Business'.
🏗️ Advancing our Lufthansa Cargo Center in Frankfurt: Europe's logistics hub
Visitors explored our central freight hub at Frankfurt Airport, our largest logistics center with a total area of around 330,000m² and a handling capacity of 20,000 tons per week. By 2030, we aim to transform the Lufthansa Cargo Center into Europe's most modern air freight hub with a sustainable infrastructure, the latest technologies, and intelligent solutions. "With the modernization, we want to further enhance the performance of our logistics center and better meet the needs of our customers," explains Stefan Dürr, our Senior Director LCCevolution Program.
🌡️ Pharma logistics at the highest international standards
Participants also visited the Lufthansa Cargo Pharma Hub Frankfurt, one of Europe's largest centers for temperature-sensitive air freight shipments. With more than 30 CEIV Pharma certifications in our network, Lufthansa Cargo offers one of the largest pharma networks worldwide. "Our decades of expertise and continuous investment in reliable and robust processes underscore our commitment to the highest quality standards in the transportation of time-critical and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments," says Philipp Lutterbeck, our Head of Pharma Hub FRA.
👩✈️ Empowering women in logistics
The logistics industry, which has so far been rather characterized by men, is seeing a significant shift with more women establishing themselves in this dynamic field. In September 2019, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) launched the global '25by2025' initiative to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in the aviation industry. More than 200 aviation companies have committed themselves to this goal. Lufthansa Cargo has set itself a more ambitious target of 30 percent, which it has already achieved in September 2024. At Lufthansa Cargo, over 30% of leadership positions are currently held by women. We are committed to increasing this percentage and fostering a culture of diversity. Participants heard from female leaders like B777F pilot Melanie Braun and our CIO Dr. Jasmin Kaiser about how women are shaping the future of the logistics industry.
