Freight executives launch charity to help children rescued from traffickers.🚫 Three senior freight industry executives have launched a charity to help survivors of child sex trafficking to rebuild their lives. Sharon Siar, VP and CFO of Talon Freight Services, Nicole Glenn, founder and CEO of Candor Logistics Management, and Kristy Knichel, president and owner of Knichel Logistics, were “horrified by the large number of child sex trafficking survivors who struggle to recover without access to the mental health counselling they need to move past the trauma of being trafficked”. In response, they have formed Gift of Freedom, in Texas. The state has the second-highest reported cases of human trafficking in the US, with, at any given time, researchers believe, some 313,000 people being trafficked in Texas, of which 79,000 are children. The women executives explained that after being rescued, children need help to deal with the trauma. Gift of Freedom partners with organisations and counsellors who can provide specialist care and rehabilitation, enabling the children to rebuild their lives. Numerous organisations save trafficked children from their abductors and abusers. However, after a rescue there are not enough facilities or mental health professionals available to provide counselling services. As a result, many victims return to the streets, because it’s all that they know.” As well as helping provide expert care and funding, Gift of Freedom works with law enforcement and government entities, lawyers, social workers and child advocacy groups. #freightnews #traffickers #europe #KnichelLogistics #TalonFreightServices

Electric freight transport without long downtimes? Battery swapping could be the answer. 🚛 DB Schenker, TRAILER DYNAMICS, and CATL are collaborating on a project involving swappable batteries in electric trailers. At the recent IAA Transportation show in Hannover, the electric semi-trailer manufacturer presented a prototype of its eTrailer equipped with a swappable battery. TRAILER DYNAMICS, based in Eschweiler, North Rhine-Westphalia, has developed a comprehensive and unique solution to reduce diesel consumption in long-distance transport or significantly increase the range of battery-electric tractors (BEVs). The system is controlled in cooperation with the tractor via sensors mounted in the kingpin (a type of shaped pin with a cylindrical head—editor’s note). “The sensors record the longitudinal and transverse forces acting on the kingpin, convert these into digital signals, and transmit them to the vehicle, where the onboard computer controls the axle in real-time. Combustion reduced by 40% The intelligent Trailer Dynamics eTrailer electric drive system supports the tractor throughout the entire journey, both when starting and climbing hills. If all the energy is not needed for these tasks, the electric drive uses the remaining energy to continuously assist the tractor along the route. Depending on the load and topography, the eTrailer’s electric assistance can reduce diesel consumption and CO2 emissions by an average of 40% or around 40 tonnes of CO2. When combined with a battery-powered tractor unit (BEV), the eTrailer can double or even triple the range. The key advantage of this technology is its universal application, much like a USB connector. The eTrailer can be connected to vehicles with all types of engines—whether hydrogen, electric, or diesel—regardless of the manufacturer. Pioneers in their field In addition, Trailer Dynamics has launched a project to introduce Battery Swapping Technology (BST) for electrified trailers in Europe. They are working on this with DB Schenker and the Chinese electric vehicle battery manufacturer CATL. Trailer Dynamics sees major benefits for logistics in this technology. 💠 Battery exchange time of just 5 minutes per module 💠 Cost reduction through a pay-per-use model, where the eTrailer can be purchased without batteries 💠 Longer battery life, as batteries charge slowly in the exchange system With this solution, once the battery in the semi-trailer is quickly replaced with a pre-charged one, the vehicle can continue its journey without having to wait several tens of minutes for a recharge. #TrailerDynamics #dbschenker #eletric #freightforwarding #europe #eTrailer

Trust us to have the muddiest end of Q3 celebrations... We spent Friday crawling through mud, climbing, running around and watching Tim Macmillan get multiple eggs cracked on his head. Yes - we very much needed a shower after 🚿 BUT we loved it and we will definitely be back at Mojo Active for more fun (well, not all of us). Then we headed out a couple hours later in our clean clothes for some pizza, drinks & games - for some that's where the real celebrations began 🥂 We are buzzing for Q4 and although we already got on before this - we trust each other with our lives now 💚

easyJet hires rail freight exec as CFO ahead of leadership shake-up 🛫 easyJet has named Jan De Raeymaeker as its next chief financial officer ahead of a looming leadership reshuffle at Europe's second largest airline. De Raeymaeker, who current holds the same role at private rail freight operator Lineas, will join in January when his predecessor Kenton Jarvis is set to take on the job as chief executive. EasyJet char Stephen Hester said De Raeymaeker has 'good experience in the airline and transport sectors as well as strong continental European reference points. Incoming boss Jarvis is set to replace Johan Lundgren next year, tasked with delivering full-year profits of £1billion by 2028-29 at the latest. Lundgren intends to stand down from his role at the beginning of 2025 following a turbulent seven-year stint marked indelibly by the Covid-19 pandemic. Tough cross-border travel curbs earlier this decade caused considerable financial damage to the global airline industry, resulting in massive job losses and some air carriers going bankrupt.
