Info

Transactional Analysis (TA)  is a theory of personality and a system for personal growth and change. TA was founded by Eric Berne in the 1950s and 1960s and has been evolving ever since. TA was originally developed as a new form of psychotherapy with an emphasis on open and equal dialogue between client and therapist. Because TA focuses on empowering individuals, as well as  understanding the relationships we form with others, it has been developed beyond the therapeutic field. It is now a well-established approach used in psychotherapy, counselling, education and organisational development. As well as providing a theory of personality, Transactional Analysis offers a range of models that can be used to explain communication and relationships. These models can help identify what goes wrong in communication and how to interact for a better outcome. Many TA concepts are simple to learn and apply, making them very accessible and effective. EATA was founded on July 16th 1976 as the European Transactional Analysis Association with the aim to bring together the numerous TA training activities in Europe and to ensure high standards. EATA currently has 42 membership associations.

  • Yesterday, April 6, 2025, Ukraine observes a national day of mourning for the victims of the missile strike on Kryvyi Rih that took place on April 4. The attack claimed the lives of at least 19 people, including nine children, and, according to the United Nations, became the deadliest for children since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022. We extend our deepest condolences to our Ukrainian colleagues and their loved ones. #ukraine #peace

  • We are pleased to introduce another member of the EATA delegates group: Mara Scoliere from Italy. How does she perceive her role as an EATA delegate? "I have been a delegate of the Italian TA Associations for many years, a role I share with Simonetta Calderone. In this role I like to be able to give my contribution to supporting and promoting EATA in my country and at the same time I find it enriching to share our experience as Transactional Analysts at different levels of training and in different national contexts with delegates from other countries. I also really appreciate the opportunity to gain perspective at an international level with colleagues who live their professional lives in very varied and different situations and this is a rich stimulus for me on both a personal and professional level. Furthermore, I consider my experience in PTSC valuable as it gives me the opportunity to contribute to the training process from within by working "together" to guarantee the quality standards that characterize the TA training path." Thank you, Mara, for your insights! #eata #ta #checkinginwithdelegates

  • For the past three months, students, colleagues, and an incredible number of people in Serbia have stood together, demonstrating for democratic and humanistic values with solidarity and empathy, believing in justice and peace. They have done so peacefully, non-violently, with respect and a commitment to humanistic principles. They are not affiliated with any political party, nor do they seek to be. Instead, they are driving a social evolution, setting an inspiring example for a better future. We wish them strength and success in realizing their vision of a peaceful world, where equality and freedom are not just ideals but a lived reality. • On Tuesday, we came together to celebrate the life and work of our late colleague, Mark Widdowson. It was a deeply moving and heartfelt gathering, bringing together his husband Phillip, his family, his friends, colleagues, and students from both EATA and ITAA. We are immensely grateful to all the speakers who honored Mark’s brilliance, sharing invaluable insights into his work, along with personal anecdotes and his memorable quotes. His contributions to the fields of depression, anxiety, relationships, research, and beyond have profoundly impacted so many lives. This tribute was a testament to the lasting influence of his work, which will continue to inspire us. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Leilani Mitchell for bringing everyone together and for hosting the evening with both warmth and sensitivity. She created a space where we could honor Mark’s legacy while holding space for our emotions. Thank you, Mark. You will always be remembered. #eata #itaa #depression #research #TA

  • Dear colleagues, we are pleased to introduce our next colleague delegate, Mayke Wagner-Froböse, who shared her thoughts on what she appreciates about being a delegate within the EATA Council. Here’s what she had to say: "As EATA delegate, I thoroughly enjoy to contribute to the development of EATA and to build bridges between DGTA and EATA! I am involved in CoC and in the DEIA task force. Both teams are lovely to be part of. At times, I find the cooperation with my colleagues from the other associations and cultures challenging. Taking the various perspectives and needs into account is what makes our community thrive. I am happy to be part of this!" #checkinginwithdelegates #eata
