  • Time travel, part 1 🕵️ It all begins in 1915, when Christian Bürkert is born. He grew up on his parents' Bühlhof farm near Ingelfingen. After the early death of his father, he studied electrical engineering in Berlin and began working for an appliance manufacturer. In 1946, he was asked to repair an incubator. He makes a temperature regulator from the wreckage of a crashed aeroplane. Due to the generally high demand, Christian Bürkert then began producing incubators and heating plates in the cellar of his parents' house. Initially, his own labour force and a cellar room at the Bühlhof were enough, but Christian Bürkert quickly hired his first employees and rented premises. A short time later, the first business, training and residential building was built on the railway line in Ingelfingen. Even then, training was a high priority: the newly constructed company building housed a training workshop, which guaranteed career prospects and practically a lifelong job not only for the company itself, but also for school leavers from outside the agricultural sector. In 1949, living space was scarce and Christian Bürkert urgently needed to recruit managers from outside the region. To counteract this problem, the first apartment block for employees was built next to the factory in Ingelfingen, which was later followed by further residential buildings. • Last year, our trainee Veronika completed an internship abroad in London as part of her training. She tells us about it:   “I had a language course at a language school for the first two weeks. The language school offers various courses for people from all over the world who come to London to improve their language skills. The school was attended by many different people from all over the world. As a result, the exchange in the classes was very interesting and we learnt about many new cultures. The different countries included Brazil, Japan, Korea, Colombia and many, many more! In addition, the language school offers a programme every evening that you can take part in.   After the two weeks at the language school, I started my internship at the charity organisation. The organisation looks after people in the community who need help and support. During the four weeks, I took on many different administrative tasks and helped with marketing by creating flyers and brochures. I was also responsible for the office and guests as a receptionist. I was also allowed to help with workshops.   I lived with a host family throughout my stay. I felt very comfortable with them from the very first moment and they made me feel very welcome.   As I was in London for several weeks, I had a lot of time to explore the city. I spent the first few days seeing the sights – the London Eye, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and so on. One thing I really liked about London was the parks. There are a lot of green spaces in London, which is very nice and makes for a relaxed atmosphere.   I had a great time in London, for which I am very grateful. I saw and learnt a lot and I will always look back fondly on the time, memories and experiences I had. One thing I will definitely miss is the public transport and the flexibility it gave me. Nevertheless, I am also glad to be back and am really looking forward to the last few months of my training.”   Thank you very much for the insights, Vero and good luck on your start into the working life!   #wemakeideasflow #stayingabroad #londonuk

Today, I had the pleasure of welcoming Philipp Baaske CEO of NanoTemper Technologies, to our Bürkert Campus in Criesbach – together with my colleague Thomas Kirst from our #LifeScience team. Our discussions touched on some of the most relevant trends in the #pharma and #biotech sectors – from the shift toward modular, scalable platforms and automated lab environments to the seamless integration of data and process control. It’s always inspiring to connect with thought leaders like Philipp, who share a vision for smarter, more efficient science and production. NanoTemper is at the forefront of molecular analytics, and at Bürkert, we complement this with precise and reliable fluid control solutions – empowering researchers and manufacturers to push boundaries. Thank you, Philipp, for the engaging exchange today. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead.
