Rheinmetall has been awarded a contract in another important large-scale project for the Bundeswehr in the field of digitalisation. As the prime contractor, Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH will be responsible for setting up an integrated communication network, the so-called ‘Tactical Wide Area Network for Land Based Operations’ (TaWAN LBO). The volume of the awarded framework-contract for a deployable, platform-based communication/directional radio management system is worth several billion Euro. The framework-contract for the procurement of TaWAN LBO has a term of 10 years and was signed by representatives of the Federal Office for the Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) and Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH. At the same time, an initial order worth €1.88bn gross was placed under the framework-contract to equip a division of the Bundeswehr. Delivery of this communications network will take place between the end of 2026 and the end of 2029. Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG: “We are thankful for the great trust that the Bundeswehr is placing in us regarding its ambitious digitalization efforts. Now that the Bundeswehr will be receiving TaWAN LBO and D-LBO from a single source, the conditions for a synchronized coordination concerning the intro­duction of both systems are given. It is our ambition to provide the Bundeswehr with a seamless and reliable communication network within the given timeframe – one which can be considered a flagship of digitalisation in Germany”. The core function of TaWAN LBO is to provide an open transport network for Federated Mission Networking (FMN) based on Protected Core Network (PCN) to connect the forward tactical D-LBO networks to the rear-echelon core network CIR. Following the contracts awarded at the end of 2024 as part of the Bundeswehr's Digitalised Land-Based Operations (D-LBO) programme, TaWAN LBO will be a further milestone for the end-to-end command capabilities of the armed forces. In connection with D-LBO, the TaWAN LBO network is to ensure connectivity deep into the rear area at high data rates. As part of the TaWAN LBO project, Rheinmetall is also supplying protected 8x8 HX trucks from Rheinmetall MAN, which serve as carrier vehicles for the large directional radio systems and are equipped with mobile high extendable antenna masts. One of the vehicles will hold the mast system, another will carry the 20-foot functional container with workstations, servers and other equipment. In view of dwindling resources worldwide, the responsible use of energy is becoming increasingly important. The growing demand for energy with limited natural resources presents everyone with the challenge of using energy as efficiently, environmentally friendly and economically as possible.   In order to fulfil this responsibility, Blücher GmbH maintains an energy management system (EnMS) in accordance with the latest and globally applicable DIN ISO 50001:2018 standard.   On the one hand, the EnMS records and evaluates the energy-related processes in the company, and on the other hand, it aims to sensitise the company as a whole to the efficient use of energy. By recognising potential savings and improvements, we are taking the opportunity to further strengthen our competitive position, document our energy awareness and continue to support the positive image of Blücher GmbH.   In 2024, we realised several energy projects and the measures have resulted in a total saving of 125,940 kWh/a and a CO2 saving of 41,352 kg/a.   Various energy projects are also planned for 2025, which will enable us to significantly increase our CO2 savings once again. #EnergyManagement #BLÜCHER #CO² #SDG #Agenda2020 #UN

Bundeswehr has ordered 568 logistics vehicles from Rheinmetall – a contract worth over €330m The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply 568 logistics vehicles. These will include 349 UTF-trucks (unprotected transport vehicle) in 5t and 15t models, as well as 219 trucks with a swap-body system, 121 of which will have a protected driver's cab. The total value of both projects amounts to over €330m gross. The UTF-trucks are to be delivered in 2026, the swap-body trucks by November 2025. The budget committee of the German Parliament, the Bundestag, approved the funds on 18 December 2024. Thus Rheinmetall booked the orders in the fourth quarter of 2024. The UTF-trucks are demands within the framework agreement concluded in July 2024 – the largest order in the history of the company in the field of logistical vehicles. It covers the delivery of up to 6,500 trucks worth up to €3.5bn gross. The framework agreement allows the Bundes¬wehr to flexibly order additional quantities of the already intro¬duced Unprotected Transport Vehicles UTF 5t and UTF 15t trucks over seven years. In addition, a new vehicle class will be introduced under the framework agreement: the 4x4 model UTF 3.5t. It has a high degree of commonality with the UTF-family. In 2024, Rheinmetall delivered a record of 2,015 logistics vehicles, making a significant contribution to strengthening the Bundeswehr's logistical capabilities. This marked a major step forward in the modernisation of the Bundeswehr's truck fleet and the expansion of its logistical capacities. The vehicles to be delivered between now and 2024 include 1,715 swap-body systems, 250 unprotected transport vehicles and 50 semi-trailer units, ordered under existing framework agreements between the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH. The large quantity and rapid delivery impressively demonstrate the new era of the Bundeswehr’s procurement, underlining the importance of Rheinmetall as a reliable partner for the armed forces. For various years, the UTF-family has been contributing substantially to the operational effectiveness of Bundeswehr logistics units and formations. In July of 2017, the Bundeswehr commissioned Rheinmetall MAN to supply its new ‘UTF mil gl family in the 5t and 15t payload classes’. The UTF has become a showcase project due to the use of flexible framework contracts for high volumes in military procurement. More than 6,000 HX-vehicles, including the swap-body systems and 70t semi-trailer units, have been delivered to the Bundeswehr since 2017.
