In 2024, ViaBot deployed more robots across the country than it ever has. As we continue to scale with existing customers and support new ones, our service not only continues to strengthen but we continue to find ways for the system to bring additional value to our clients. It's been great to see national retailers, facility managers, and other commercial facilities benefit from having ViaBot One service their locations. ViaBot One makes spotting and picking up trash look easy, doesn’t it? In reality, it’s an incredibly challenging problem for robots. ViaBot uses machine learning, computer vision, and depth perception to detect and motion plan toward debris. This allows it to perform autonomous detection (spot) cleaning, even in highly complex environments. Check out this video of ViaBot One out in the field captured by a bystander. Surfaces often have complex, visually deceptive patterns—like parking lot paint lines and pavement cracks—that can be mistaken for debris or hide actual debris from detection. Low lighting conditions, such as at night, further reduce visibility and increase sensor uncertainty. Additionally, robots must navigate obstacles like immovable, thin stop sign poles, which are especially difficult for sensors, all while steering toward debris. Overcoming these visual and spatial challenges to locate and collect debris requires advanced perception, sensor fusion, and decision-making. ViaBot now has over 1.5 Billion square feet of real-world cleaning data, and the robots continually learn from each other, translating that knowledge into cleaner properties and happier customers—insights that could never have been learned in a lab.
