UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for people forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution. We lead international action to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. We deliver life-saving assistance, help safeguard fundamental human rights, and develop solutions that ensure people have a safe place called home where they can build a better future. We also work to ensure that stateless people are granted a nationality. We work in over 130 countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions. UNHCR’s greatest asset is our workforce. We work with passionate, talented and creative individuals who want to use their skills for good. • “It all starts with one seed, with one will.” Welcome to the Aboutengue refugee settlement in Chad. Here, Sudanese refugee women have joined hands to form a thriving business, producing handcrafted hats, bags, perfumes and traditional incense. This initiative not only provides essential income but also strengthens community bonds amidst displacement and economic hardship. With more than 760,000 Sudanese refugees fleeing to Chad in the last two years, the resilience of these women is remarkable. Their hope is to expand the project throughout the camp, empowering more refugee women. UNHCR calls for urgent support from the global community to ensure initiatives like these can thrive and continue providing safety, dignity, and hope. Visit the link in our bio to see how you can support these amazing women and their families.

Global Security Communications Coordinator at UNHCR | Expert in Secure IT & Telecom Solutions for Humanitarian Operations

When disaster strikes, communication is survival. The recent earthquake in Myanmar is a painful reminder of how quickly lives can change and how vital it is to stay connected when every second counts. In the chaos of emergencies, traditional networks often go down. But security communications systems like VHF/UHF radios and satellite phones keep working if maintained well. They become lifelines. These tools don’t just help humanitarians coordinate response; they help save lives. Without reliable communication: - First responders can’t reach those in need. - Aid can’t be directed where it’s needed most. - Families remain in fear, not knowing if loved ones are safe. That’s why at UNHCR, we emphasize preparedness. We deploy and maintain robust security communication systems—tools that continue to work in the hardest conditions. Radios and satellite phones are not “backup.” They are essentials. Takeaway: Emergencies demand more than compassion—they demand readiness. Security communication saves lives when infrastructure fails. 📷 Image credit: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency #EmergencyResponse #SCS #SavingLives

Protection Officer | Gender Equality, Gender-based Violence (GBV), Quality Project Management

#HumanitariansAtWork One of the ‘’pépites’’ (nuggets ✨) of my work? Working with fantastic women leaders. Working as a Protection Officer includes improving engagement with community-based organizations, including those led by forcibly displaced and stateless women. What does my work contribute to? ⬆️Meaningful participation of the people we work with and for ⬆️Direct entry to a diversity of stakeholders, including donors ⬆️Visibility of organizations’ expertise and impact of their work ⬆️Access to information, including to grant opportunities, tools to support institutional strengthening and project management, capacity sharing spaces, and strategic networking ⬆️Mechanisms which meet organizations’ needs and realities How does this impact on forcibly displaced and stateless people? ✅Emergency response: organizations are better supported while saving lives and delivering steadily on the frontlines. ✅Protection: organizations can reach and provide services to people in need, leaving no one behind.  ✅Solutions: organizations design inclusive solutions, which last. ✅Quality: organizations are better equipped and gain in quality and efficiency. Resourcing communities, including women-led organizations, contribute to greater social cohesion, inclusion and collective resilience. And you, what is your ''pépite'' ✨ at work? Pictures include Adhieu Achuil, Samia El Hashmi, Quinta Ola, Veronica Ngum, Tal Mary Magdalene, Nasrin Abdullahi, Maria Krisch, Alexandra Maldonado, Ndaga Yvonne Endam :) Thank you!
