📢 Meet our Language AI Meetup speakers for the first-ever event in Berlin on 19 March 📢   David Vilar Torres, Senior Research Scientist at Google 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗟𝗣   Most machine learning models, including LLMs, generate their output guided by the probability distribution they define. Taking machine translation as a specific example, in this talk we will explore how this criterion is not always the best choice, and can lead to suboptimal decisions. We will discuss Minimum Bayes Risk decoding as an alternative generation method that can optimise arbitrary performance metrics at generation time. 🇨🇭 Bonne nouvelle, voici une alternative suisse efficace au géant Deepl: Supertext. Aujourd’hui, qui dit traduction en ligne pense souvent au service allemand, voire parfois à Google, ou alors à des chatbots de type ChatGPT. Pour celles et ceux qui cherchent une alternative locale, il y a du nouveau. La société Supertext, basée à Zurich et à Berlin, vient de lancer une nouvelle plateforme de traduction en ligne offrant plusieurs services, dont le regard d’interprètes en chair et en os sur les textes. Supertext met aussi en avant la «suissitude de ses services». «Nous avons opté pour une infrastructure informatique basée entièrement en Suisse pour le traitement des données. Outre la qualité de nos traductions, c’est l’une des raisons pour lesquelles des banques et des assureurs comme Axa et Raiffeisen proposent Supertext à leurs employés plutôt que DeepL» affirme Samuel Läubli, directeur de la société. La Vaudoise, les CFF et Swiss Life font aussi partie des clients de Supertext. Toutes ces entreprises peuvent utiliser le service en local et le paramétrer selon leurs besoins propres.
