We recently held our annual New Year’s Reception with SABC Members and African Ambassadors based in Switzerland at Hotel Schweizerhof in Bern.🌍 The reception format included discussions on geopolitical trends impacting Swiss-African business relations and key trends in the Swiss-African Business Circle’s three priority sectors: Agribusiness, Infrastructure, and Healthcare. Here are some takeaways from the reception: ✅With the current geopolitical events, Africa is one of the more stable markets, and it is important to seek opportunities despite the geopolitical shocks. ✅Equal-footed, strategic partnerships will be even more essential to weather geopolitical shocks felt by the continent. ✅There is a strong trend towards bilateralism. Switzerland, which launched its new holistic Africa strategy, has increased its bilateral ties to offer its companies a more diverse market and looks to have more bilateral ties with the continent. ✅Regarding healthcare trends, there is an increasing emphasis on localisation. This includes sovereignty in terms of decision-making and local solutions, as well as a call for an increase in local manufacturing and production. ✅From an Agri-perspective, a shift from development aid is essential to increase the continent’s ability towards local processing and access to export markets. ✅Regarding infrastructure, the importance of stability in the legal frameworks was highlighted as well as the importance of local governments making it possible for companies to invest on the continent. ✅There was a call for alternative and innovative financing mechanisms that reduce reliance on donor funding. The evening concluded with an opportunity to network during the Apéro Riche. 🍽️🍷 Thank you to all our esteemed speakers, including H.E.
