⚓ Conditions for the world’s seafarers are set to improve following the adoption of new amendments to the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. Governments, seafarers, and shipowners from across the global shipping industry have agreed on important updates covering six key areas. These changes are designed to better protect seafarers from abuse, enhance on-board care, and facilitate greater mobility around the world. This is a major step forward for the rights, welfare, and dignity of those who keep global trade moving. Read more about the amendments here: https://lnkd.in/eCccYvZW

💬 When we go to work, we expect to earn enough to live, have time to rest, and—most importantly—stay safe. But for millions, these are still not guaranteed. Thanks to ILO Conventions, many workers now have fair wages, maternity protection, and safe workplaces. But millions more still need these rights. Decent work should be for everyone, everywhere. 💪 #DecentWork

Social protection systems are not gender-neutral by default—and when they ignore gender, they risk reinforcing inequality. Only 1 in 2 women worldwide has access to any form of social protection. From maternity to old age, women face specific risks throughout their lives, yet many systems still fall short of meeting those needs. Have a look: https://lnkd.in/ea2UvZ4T

📢 Meeting of G20 Employment Working Group II discusses EWG priority on Gender Equality in the Workforce. Together the International Labour Organization and OECD - OCDE presented data and analysis of gaps between men's and women's labour force participation and wages and find pockets of progress but ⚠️ persistent disparities We need a basket of gender-responsive policies that can close these gaps: ✅ Preventing and addressing violence and harassment at work to address discrimination and create a safe world of work; ✅ Strengthening wage policies and institutions, including pay transparency, minimum wage setting and pay equity laws; ✅ Promoting equal pay for work of equal value; ✅ Investing in the care economy - in care policies and services and in ensuring decent work for care workers; ✅ Leveraging social protection systems over the life-course; and ✅ Ensuring that women have a voice and representation in policy-making processes, including through collective bargaining. 🌍 Imagine a world where billions have no safety net to fall back on. Today, 3.8 billion people live without access to social protection. That’s nearly three-quarters of all children missing out on child benefits, and millions of workers and mothers without unemployment or maternity coverage. Universal social protection can change that—ensuring no one is left behind and enabling everyone to thrive. Let’s work together to build a world of equity, dignity, and security for all.
