Info

Founded in 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the umbrella organisation of its members, currently 211 national football associations. Its main objectives, enshrined in its statutes, are to develop football around the world, to stage international competitions and to protect the integrity of football (against match manipulation, doping etc.). FIFA is composed of a number of political bodies (such as the FIFA Congress and the FIFA Council) and the administration. The highest political position is the FIFA President, elected every four years by FIFA’s member associations. The FIFA administration, with more than 800 people from over 60 nations, is based in Zurich. It is run by the Secretary General (CEO). FIFA stages FIFA World Cups™ in various forms such as youth, men’s and women’s, futsal, beach soccer or club competitions. The men’s FIFA World Cup™ is not only the most popular single sporting event in the world but also the financial backbone for FIFA and its efforts to develop football worldwide. The financial success of the FIFA World Cup™ allows FIFA to run a wide range of football development programmes and to provide funds, infrastructure and know-how to its member associations through the FIFA Forward Development Programme. Football ready to take centre stage in the Americas ⚽️🌎 The inaugural FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, taking place across 11 cities in the USA this summer, is “the missing piece in the ecosystem” for football in the region and beyond. Addressing the Business of Soccer conference in Los Angeles, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström said: “It’s going to be a fantastic competition. It’s really a new journey for club football, and together with our friends from CONCACAF… we have been working on this for a number of years. “It's a really important step for the club ecosystem because this competition didn't exist before. Having these 32 teams - who have qualified through their continental competitions - you really have a sporting pathway for this tournament. All of these clubs have really earned the right to be there, and to compete for the first ever title of FIFA Club World Cup champion.”

Enhancing the level of competition for clubs all around the world 🌎 This summer's FIFA Club World Cup 25™ will help to strengthen clubs outside of Europe, giving them a greater role in developing and educating players. FIFA Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger told the European Club Association (ECA) Club Connect event in Madrid: "We want to have strong clubs everywhere in the world. Let’s not forget that the clubs are responsible for the development of the players. He added: "Today, everybody, every talent in the world, who was born and has some football talent, wants to come to Europe. Why? Because in their own country, there is no chance to play at a good level. So you would think that if we can create strong units everywhere in the world, they will take charge of developing more good players and developing football inside their country."
