POSITION SUMMARY:
The Workday Financial Operations Lead will play a key role in supporting and enhancing the Finance team’s use of Workday by providing expertise in accounting, reconciliations, and end to end financial close processes. This individual will coach and mentor team members, helping to improve efficiency, accuracy, and best practices within the Finance function and will be responsible for implementing internal controls within Accounting Operations. The role focuses on optimizing Workday’s financial capabilities while ensuring seamless execution of month-end and quarter-end close activities.
MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE:
Accounting & Financial Close Support
Lead and assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities, including reviewing and approving journal entries, account reconciliations, business assets, accruals, and prepaids.
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and analyses by reviewing and validating financial data within Workday.
Provide oversight and support for automated reconciliations, ensuring alignment with accounting policies and financial controls.
Work closely with finance leadership to assess and refine close processes for efficiency and accuracy.
Workday System Expertise & Process Optimization
Leverage Workday’s capabilities to enhance financial workflows and drive automation.
Identify process improvements and implement best practices to optimize Workday for accounting functions.
Partner with IT and Finance teams to troubleshoot issues, refine configurations, and support system enhancements.
Assist with ongoing Workday updates, ensuring the team is prepared for system changes and new features.
Coaching, Mentorship & Team Development
Act as a mentor and knowledge resource for the Finance team, helping team members strengthen their Workday expertise.
Provide hands-on training and guidance on financial processes, reconciliations, and close activities.
Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team, supporting professional development.
Compliance, Controls & Audit Support
Ensure adherence to financial policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.
Support internal and external audits by preparing reconciliations, documentation, and financial reports.
Assist in identifying and mitigating risks related to finance processes and system integrity.
Update and maintain internal standard operating procedures and policies.
Prepare and report monthly Workday Reports (KPIs and KRIs) and analyses.

Skills And Experience Required
Attributes:
Strong accounting background with a focus on financial close, reconciliations, and reporting.
Excellent coaching and mentorship abilities to support team development.
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a commitment to accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
Qualifications and Technical Expertise:
5+ years of relevant accounting experience, including month-end close and reconciliations.
Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) required.
Workday experience preferred, with a strong understanding of financial modules and workflows.
Have a controls mindset and ability to analyze accounting information.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, complex formulas, data analysis).
Experience with financial process automation and optimization is an asset.
This role is ideal for an experienced accountant with Workday expertise who is passionate about mentoring others, improving processes, and ensuring a smooth financial close process.
