Controller - Finance

Position Title: Controller 

Location: Kibo Sushi Head Office – Toronto, ON

Overview:

Kibo Franchising Ltd. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to lead the finance and accounting function across its growing multi-entity business. This role will report directly and act as a key partner to the executive team. The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, implement financial systems and controls, manage a small internal team, and prepare timely and accurate reporting to support the company’s franchise and corporate growth plans. This is a hands-on role with potential to evolve into a VP Finance or CFO role as the company scales.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of accounting and finance across multiple entities (franchisor, corporate stores, and central kitchen)
• Prepare and present monthly financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and key metrics to executive leadership
• Manage the bookkeeping team (currently 1 FT and 1 PT) and oversee AP, AR, payroll coordination, bank reconciliations, and journal entries
• Implement accounting policies, systems, and internal controls to support future growth
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across business units
• Oversee royalty collection and reconciliation from franchisees
• Manage financial reporting for tax filings and ensure compliance with CRA, HST, WSIB, etc.
• Provide financial insight into new store development, vendor negotiations, and investment planning
• Collaborate with leadership on long-term financial planning, fundraising efforts, and board reporting (if applicable)
• Liaise with external accountants, auditors, banks, and other third parties as needed

Qualifications

• CPA designation preferred
• 2–5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally including Controller-level responsibility
• Experience in multi-entity or franchise business models strongly preferred
• Hands-on approach with comfort in both strategic and day-to-day work
• Strong system and process implementation skills
• Experience with inventory accounting, foodservice/hospitality, or central kitchen/distribution businesses is a major asset
• Proven leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage up and down
