Assistant Controller

Our client, a manufacturer, is looking to bring on an Assistant Controller for 3 months contract to hire. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will play a key role in supporting the onboarding of two major direct-to-consumer (D2C) clients. This includes taking over full-cycle accounting functions, building out finance processes, and leading special projects related to end-to-end product solutions—covering everything from design and procurement to fulfillment and production. The ideal candidate has experience in D2C environments and thrives in fast-moving, hands-on roles.

This role is hybrid and 2 days a week in office.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
• Build and optimize financial processes and internal controls to support onboarding of new clients
• Oversee month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash management activities
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure efficient financial operations for newly onboarded clients
• Manage special projects tied to client transitions and operational scaling
• Act as a financial point of contact during system/process handovers

Qualifications:

• CPA designation or relevant experience
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership responsibilities
• Experience in D2C environments and/or product-based businesses
• Proven ability to build processes from the ground up in a dynamic environment
• Strong systems knowledge and hands-on approach to problem solving
