About us

Toronto Research Chemicals, TRC, was founded in 1982 by Dr. David Dime to manufacture and supply researchers in the biomedical fields with specialized complex organic small molecules that were not commercially available. In 1983, the company was incorporated in Ontario as Toronto Research Chemicals Inc. It was initially located at the University of Toronto. As the business expanded, larger facilities were required to accommodate the growth. Today, Toronto Research Chemicals Inc. employs over 450 full-time staff, of which approximately 250 are PhD's and MSc's, operating in 120,000 square feet of facilities. TRC has over 350,000 products offered in our extensive catalogue. Our inventory exceeds 38,000 different compounds for immediate shipment to more than 120 countries. Why Choose Toronto Research Chemicals? - We specialize in providing high-quality bio-chemicals in custom pack sizes to satisfy any quantity required. - We distribute to companies worldwide, usually, providing overnight delivery in North America via Federal Express. - We also offer alternative carrier options to meet worldwide delivery and special import requirements. - We have a dedicated and professional customer service team positioned to ensure customer satisfaction and technical support. *In August of 2019, TRC became a subsidiary of LGC. LGC acquired Toronto Research Chemicals, strengthening our overall presence in the global reference standards market.

  • World Parkinson’s Day: The Growing Crisis of an Aging Population On World Parkinson’s Day, we recognise the urgent need for innovative approaches to address one of the fastest-growing neurological disorders. Today, more than 10 million people worldwide live with Parkinson’s disease, and as life expectancy increases, the number of cases is expected to double in the coming decades. For years, treatments such as levodopa and MAO-B inhibitors have helped manage symptoms, but they do not slow the progression of the disease. The race is on for next-generation therapies that target the root causes—neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, protein misfolding, and neuronal loss. 🔬At TRC, we support Parkinson’s drug discovery with hundreds of compounds- referenced in over 1,000 research publications. Our LGC Mikromol™ range provides high-quality active APIs and impurity reference materials, including Apomorphine Hydrochloride Hemihydrate, ensuring the reliable manufacturing of essential treatments for Parkinson’s disease. Discover more at https://ow.ly/VGcf50VyNFN With millions at risk and no cure available, the need for innovation has never been greater. #WorldParkinsonsDay #Neurology #DrugDiscovery #ParkinsonsResearch #Neuroinflammation #Neruroscience

Did you know Coca-Cola once contained cocaine? When pharmacist John Stith Pemberton created the drink in 1886, it was marketed as a medicinal tonic, containing coca leaf extract (which naturally contains cocaine) and kola nut for caffeine. 🔬 How much cocaine? Early formulas contained around 9 mg per serving—far lower than modern recreational doses but enough to have a stimulating effect. It was promoted as a “brain tonic” to boost energy and relieve fatigue. 🚫 When was cocaine removed? Due to growing concerns, Coca-Cola began using "spent" coca leaves (with the cocaine removed) in 1904. By 1929, the drink was completely cocaine-free. ⚖️ Still using coca leaves? Yes! Coca-Cola still uses a decocainised coca extract, legally processed by the Stepan Company in the US under DEA supervision. LGC Standards provide high-quality forensic and toxicology reference materials, including cocaine reference standards, formulated for forensic testing (https://ow.ly/N74050VvbHu) and medical research (https://ow.ly/E01r50VvbHv). 🗞️Read more about coca's history at https://ow.ly/Klqc50VvbHt #MoleculeMonday #PharmaceuticalChemistry #DrugDiscovery

  • Download our latest white paper to explore the latest advances in transporter science and modelling techniques now: https://lnkd.in/e46DDPft False positives in in vitro toxicology and drug-drug interaction (DDI) studies remain a major bottleneck in drug development, leading to unnecessary clinical trials, inflated costs and delayed access to life saving therapies. However, recent advances in transporter science - including validation of biomarkers like coproporphyrin I (CPI) and next generation in vitro models such as organ on a chip, combined with modelling techniques - are transforming the landscape, enabling more accurate prediction of toxicity and DDI scenarios This whitepaper provides practical guidance for drug developers on integrating biomarker and assay data to improve predictive reliability, in alignment with ICH M12 regulatory guidelines. #Whitepaper #DrugDevelopment #TransporterScience #InVitroToxicology #Biomarkers #PharmaceuticalResearch

  • We are pleased to announce the release of our new guide: Characterising Impurity Standards: What Defines “Good Enough?” https://ow.ly/k68J50VwtrW. Impurity reference standards (IRSs) are essential for identifying and quantifying impurities in pharmaceutical development and manufacturing accurately. However, due to the limited regulatory guidance on how much characterisation is truly needed for various applications, selecting the right standard can be challenging. To assist with this process, LGC Standards has created an interactive multimedia guide that is packed with expert insights to facilitate informed decision-making and ensure confidence in choosing the most suitable IRS for your specific needs. #ImpurityStandards #AnalyticalChemistry #PharmaIndustry #QualityControl

  • Epilepsy affects around 1% of people worldwide, yet available medications fail to control seizures in up to 30% of patients. There’s a critical need for innovation in drug design and therapeutic strategies. A recent study evaluated SSR504734, an investigational drug that selectively inhibits Glycine Transporter Type 1 (GlyT1)—previously explored in schizophrenia and anxiety—as a potential epilepsy treatment. Using our TRC research chemicals: GABA, GABA-D6 and SSR504734 metabolite, researchers precisely measured neurotransmitter changes, discovering that SSR504734: ✅ Made the brain more resistant to seizures ✅ Influenced inflammation markers linked to epilepsy ✅ Effectively reached therapeutic concentrations in the brain 🔬Learn more about our GABA-D6 product or read this research in the citation section here: https://ow.ly/4uIL50VtmfL Could targeting GlyT1 open a new path in epilepsy drug discovery? #EpilepsyResearch #DrugDiscovery #Neuroscience #GlyT1 #ProductCitation
