  • Time is running out to protect over 100 acres of floodplain forest along the Xwésam (Salmon) River in Sayward! TODAY is the last day to donate to this campaign and help us conserve this refuge for iconic species such as the majestic great blue heron, the northern pygmy owl and the Roosevelt elk. With your help, we can ensure this floodplain forest, with towering trees up to 120 years old, is protected for future generations. If we reach our fundraising goal, this conservation area will be added to our existing Xwésam (Salmon) River Estuary Conservation Complex, growing it to an incredible 1,037.8 acres. All five species of Pacific salmon rely on this river and estuary to thrive. Will you donate today before it's too late to help us protect this special place forever? Donate today and help us reach the finish line 🏁🌿🐟 https://bit.ly/3RwJ18E 📸: Tyler Cave

  • Together, we raised $515,900 to protect Lake Errock's old coastal forest for generations. We couldn't have accomplished this feat without the support of the incredible local community at Lake Errock! Thank you to all our conservation champions who rallied together to help protect this incredible natural area. Pictured here is a hand-made tile QR code by Lake Errock local Michael U. The QR code leads to the Lake Errock campaign's donation page! Thank you to all our incredible donors and supporters for helping us protect Lake Errock, forever.

  • Today is World Beaver Day 🌿 This tireless Canadian icon works to transform its surroundings, creating wetlands that harbour a remarkable array of biodiversity. The beaver serves as nature’s engineer and guardian of wetland habitats in B.C. Their ability to shape their ecosystems has countless positive impacts; read more about beavers and how The Nature Trust of BC is working with partners like BC Wildlife Federation to use beavers' ingenuity to restore B.C.'s wetlands: https://bit.ly/42347lf

  • Together, we did it 🌿💧 Thanks to your generous support, we have reached our goal of raising the final $515,900 needed to protect Lake Errock's old coastal forest, with towering trees up to 250 years old. This means that 36.3 acres (14.7 hectares) of Lake Errock's ecologically significant land, a refuge for at-risk and endangered species, will be conserved for future generations. This incredible land is a biodiversity powerhouse - protecting habitat for species like the great blue heron, western painted turtle, and barn swallow. This land was at a great risk of development or harvesting, and thanks to you, these critical forests will remain an ecological haven, forever.

  • The Nature Trust of BC has been working to protect the Xwésam (Salmon) River on Vancouver Island for over 50 years. But our work isn't done yet! We need your help to protect over 100 acres of floodplain forest along this critical lifeline that provides habitat to all five species of Pacific salmon, along with steelhead and blue-listed cutthroat trout 🐟🌿 The river and estuary provide vital habitat for some of the province’s most iconic species, including the majestic great blue heron, the northern pygmy owl and the Roosevelt elk – the largest subspecies of North American elk. Expanding this conservation complex increases the connectivity and resilience of sensitive estuarine and riparian ecosystems within the river and its estuary. Donate today to protect this important land forever: https://bit.ly/3RwJ18E 📸: Tyler Cave

  • Last week our South Coast Conservation Field Crew headed out to Pitt Addington Marsh for some ongoing restoration work 🌿🦆 The crew checked on solar tarps installed at the site, which have been really effective at smothering invasive Himalayan blackberry. They removed and dug out the blackberry roots; managing this invasive species will allow native species to thrive! The crew moved one solar tarp from a treated section to a new area, and then did some native tree and shrub planting within the previously treated section 🌱

  • A curious cougar has been checking our our monitoring cameras! This season is an exciting time of year to monitor cameras to learn more about how wildlife are making use of conservation lands for habitat 🐾 Our Kootenay Conservation Field Crew, as well as our partners in the Okanagan Nation Alliance, maintain cameras at several locations around the Kootenay Region. The Nature Trust of British Columbia gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program for its contribution to the NTBC Land Stewardship Activities - CFC Program. www.fwcp.ca

  • Did you know that barn swallows are the world's most common swallow species, yet in Canada they are threatened, with their population decreasing over 75% in the past 40 years? Barn swallows face a variety of threats, from climate change impacts to habitat loss, to changes in insect populations and invasive species competition. We are currently fundraising to protect 36.3 acres (14.7 hectares) of Lake Errock’s old coastal forest, that provides a refuge for species like the barn swallow. You can help us protect this bird's habitat forever by donating today. All donations until March 31st are matched, doubling your impact! Double your donation today: https://bit.ly/4hbuB9p
