WZMH Architects to showcase Speedstac at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale!   WZMH Architects is honored to participate in the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, presenting Speedstac as part of Living With... Combined Intelligences. This year’s exhibition challenges architecture’s role in addressing climate change, conflict, and global instability, questioning how we can continue to inhabit our planet while embracing these challenges and forging new ways of living.    Speedstac embodies an interdisciplinary approach to architectural design, merging human expertise, artificial intelligence, and ecological intelligence to develop more adaptable and resilient built environments. Speedstac gained new urgency with the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. With over 170,000 buildings fully or partially destroyed, millions have been left without adequate housing. Developed through WZMH’s sparkbird Lab, Speedstac is a prefabricated modular system that allows for the replacement of damaged building sections with self-contained units featuring built-in electrical and plumbing systems. These modules function like organs in a body, seamlessly integrating into existing structures.    The technology prioritizes sustainability, efficiency, and resilience, offering a scalable, cost-effective solution for post-conflict recovery. The system also enhances accessibility and safety, with features like ground-floor public spaces, barrier-free units, and in-unit bomb shelters. WZMH is collaborating with Ukrainian architect, Alexander Fil, incorporating Speedstac into new projects, from single-family homes to schools, aiming to alleviate the housing crisis for millions of displaced individuals.    At a time when architecture must go beyond mere survival, Living With calls for a shift from reaction to interaction. 2025 is going to be an amazing year with the collaboration between sparkbird and Saudi ConTech

We’re thrilled to announce an innovative collaboration between WZMH Architects / sparkbird and Saudi ConTech, combining global expertise with local knowledge to transform the Architectural-Engineering-Construction (AEC) industry in Saudi Arabia. Our collaboration focuses on three key areas of innovation, referred to as “Buckets”: 1️⃣ Pilot Testing of Groundbreaking Products We’re launching pilot projects for cutting-edge solutions like the Intelligent Structural Panel and Speedstac (Concrete and Mass Timber versions). These innovations are set to redefine construction efficiency and sustainability, with mockups aimed at attracting interest from real estate developers, construction companies, and government agencies. 2️⃣ Research and Development (R&D) Together, we’ll advance early-stage concepts, including Ska-ana, Carbonlock, and Doton, by partnering with universities, developers, and government agencies in Saudi Arabia. Our goal is to test these innovative ideas at scale and deliver transformative results for the industry. 3️⃣ Exploring the Creation of a Venture Studio In the early stages of planning, we are working toward establishing the Sparkbird Saudi Arabia Venture Studio—a dedicated space to develop and refine new products. To make this vision a reality, we aim to secure the right financial backing and create a studio that blends local and global expertise. Key products like CITYsense, 1-Wale, and the ThermoCrete Frame will be at the forefront of this endeavor. Building on a legacy of impactful projects in Saudi Arabia, including the masterplanning of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah in the 1980s, WZMH Architects and sparkbird proudly return to partner with Saudi ConTech to drive innovation and deliver transformative AEC solutions for Saudi Arabia and the world. Thrilled to announce that WZMH Architects + sparkbird took home three awards at the 2024 BLT Built Design Awards under the 'Other Construction Products' category! It’s unprecedented and a testament to our team's dedication and innovation in the AEC industry. These awards were achieved for groundbreaking solutions developed entirely in our Sparkbird lab: the Intelligent Structural Panel (our structural smart floor system), a mass timber cladding system promoting sustainable materials, and Speedstac, initially developed for North American housing but now a key solution in rebuilding Ukraine. We’re proud to be working with incredible Ukrainian architects like Oleksandr Fil and Gleb Semyakin on this impactful project. This marks an incredible milestone for WZMH Architects, Sparkbird, and Giraffe, as we partner with a company whose software has been a core part of our practice for over 30 years. Together with Autodesk’s brilliant team, we’re diving into research aimed at tackling major construction site challenges and boosting efficiency. Over the past six months, we've started to analyze a few active sites in Toronto and are looking at how we can incorporate innovations like Giraffe’s ska-ana and doton tools to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of construction. Our groundbreaking solutions have been awarded in the Construction Product Design, other construction products category for being among the best in innovation, sustainability, and adaptability.   🏅 SPEEDSTAC SPEEDSTAC is a modular construction system engineered for rapid, efficient builds using prefabricated modules. Each module is self-contained with integrated electrical and plumbing services, making them ideal for quick assembly and adaptable housing solutions. With materials like high-performance concrete, SPEEDSTAC supports sustainable and agile construction, ready to repair, replace, or expand existing structures without major demolition.   🏅 Intelligent Structural Panel (ISP) ISP combines the strength of a sandwich plate system with IoT technology, creating a “smart” building panel for walls and floors. Prefabricated off-site, each panel includes built-in mechanical, electrical, and IT infrastructure, drastically reducing on-site construction time and labor. Once installed, ISP panels act as a building’s brain, enhancing structural stability and integrating intelligent infrastructure in a single product.   🏅Timberclad A sustainable alternative to traditional concrete panels, Timberclad features Nail Laminated Timber (NLT) or Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) to reduce weight and environmental impact while offering high insulation. This design is ideal for structures with limited openings, like industrial buildings and data centers, providing a greener, lighter, and better-insulated wall assembly without compromising durability.
