  • “Children can be the most impacted after an event. [We’re here] to provide child friendly spaces where a kid can be a kid and have their right to play.” Recently, the Canadian Red Cross hosted a Winter Warm-Up event in Jasper to provide an opportunity for the community to connect, promote well-being, and foster hope through creative crafts and activities for kids and wellness resources for parents. Asha Isse, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Advisor with the Canadian Red Cross, shares more about the event ⬇️ The Red Cross is actively committed to wildfire recovery and building community resilience with our support and granting programs for individuals, households, small businesses and not-for-profits.

  • For #WorldHealthDay, we’re highlighting the incredible work of the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS). They continue to tirelessly lead efforts to deliver critical health care to communities across Afghanistan, reaching those in the most remote and vulnerable areas of the country. Our long-standing partnership with ARCS, along with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC has helped establish mobile health teams to meet the staggering humanitarian needs in the country.  Through this collaboration, ARCS is able to consistently send teams into communities to provide life-saving primary health services, including maternal and childcare, vaccinations, and health education. In the face of compounding and grave challenges, from natural disasters to health crises, ARCS’ dedicated teams bring care – and most importantly – hope, to those who need it the most. Together, the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement is unwaveringly committed to strengthening the resilience and well-being of millions of Afghan people and ensuring that all families and individuals continue to receive the support they deserve. • Myanmar was struck with a powerful, 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28 with more than 50 other aftershocks recorded since. More than 18 million people live within the area impacted by the earthquake. Their most critical needs are reliable health, clean water and safe shelter. The International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC are both working in support of Myanmar Red Cross as they provide vital support to those impacted. • International Humanitarian Law is clear: Humanitarian workers must be protected, respected and granted safe access to reach those in need. Last year was the deadliest year on record for humanitarians. The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement lost 38 colleagues in 2024, who were killed as they carried out their humanitarian duties. As we mourn the loss of eight Palestine Red Crescent Society medics who were killed in Gaza last week, we must remember that these deaths are not an inevitable consequence of armed conflict. Humanitarians provide vital support to civilians as they cope with the devastating impacts of armed conflict. They can and must be protected.

  • Sunday Community Dinners are an important tradition for Jasper residents. Every week, during the winter months, residents gather to dine in community – a tradition that started in 2003 and continues today. This past Sunday, the Canadian Red Cross hosted the community dinner. Our leadership team joined volunteers in preparing and serving Jasper residents following the lead of Chef Darryl Huculak, owner of the Olive Bistro and Lounge, all to support Jasper's ongoing recovery through sharing a meal. At the community dinner, Conrad Sauvé, President and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross, shared, “The Community Dinner happened before the wildfires, it's a place where the community comes together to provide support to each other. And of course, after the wildfires, this activity has become even more important.”

  • This past weekend, representatives of the Canadian Red Cross leadership team were in Jasper as we continue to support people impacted by the 2024 Alberta Wildfires. They met with Ralph Melnyk, the Municipality of Jasper’s Deputy Mayor, to discuss how to best continue supporting the community in their recovery. They also visited the interim housing sites managed by the Red Cross through an agreement with Parks Canada and in collaboration with the Municipality of Jasper. Over the last few days, the Red Cross team held an in-person event to meet with impacted individuals to discuss their ongoing needs and available recovery supports. 📍Gaza | For 17 months, medical staff and first responders in Gaza have been responding to unimaginable suffering day after day, and many have been killed in the course of their work. We are appalled that eight medics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society were killed while carrying out their work, along with first responders from the Civil Defence in Gaza and a staff member of the United Nations. We are deeply saddened and mourn alongside their families, loved ones, and colleagues. Read more: http://ms.spr.ly/6045qmATU
