  • At Planteva farms, we chose our technology partner precisely for this reason. We searched globally for a system that was purpose-built for propagation—and found in Plantvation AB the only company that has spent the last 15+ years engineering the ideal environment for seedlings. Their tech gives us unmatched precision and reliability, helping us deliver on our mission: to give elite genetics their best possible expression and bring consistency to the first—and most important—phase of the growing cycle.

The next frontier in agriculture isn't just about growing—it’s about how we start. As Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and vertical farming technologies evolve, it’s becoming clear that propagation is one of the most overlooked opportunities for transformation. Elite genetics need precision from day one. Traditional propagation methods often introduce variability, reduce vigor, and limit the true expression of high-performance varieties. But when we apply total environmental control to the seedling stage, we unlock new levels of consistency, health, and adaptability—giving plants the best possible start. Purpose-built propagation systems are shifting the paradigm. They aren't retrofitted leafy green farms—they're engineered to deliver ideal conditions for young plants to thrive. The result? Stronger transplants, shorter crop cycles, and a smarter, more resilient supply chain. It’s time to view propagation not as a cost center, but as a strategic edge. #AgTech #TCEA #VerticalFarming #SeedlingProduction #ControlledEnvironment #SmartFarming #FutureOfAg

  • When talking about Planeva farms, I often refer to the early days of the automotive industry as a metaphor for CEAs current condition. As a part of the series of short articles I've been producing, I wanted to dive deeper into the similarities of early industry, and highlight the importance of failure as part of the equation of a thriving industry as it matures.

CEA Is Evolving Like the Automotive Industry Did—And That’s a Good Thing History offers us a blueprint. At the turn of the 20th century, the U.S. had over 250 automobile manufacturers. Within a few decades, most had disappeared. But their failure wasn’t wasted—it was foundational. Each one contributed something: a new drivetrain, a novel assembly method, a design breakthrough. Their collective trial and error forged the path for the few that ultimately scaled and defined the industry. Today, the Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) sector is experiencing a similar arc. Dozens of vertical farms and agtech startups have risen (and many have fallen), each one adding a small but essential piece to the bigger puzzle. The industry may look messy from the outside, but this chaos is part of the natural cycle of innovation. The silver lining? These companies—successful or not—are pushing the boundaries and creating the knowledge base that future leaders will build on. But just like the auto industry, it’s not only the headline makers that matter. The long-term strength of CEA will depend on the rise of highly specialized sub-industries: Substrate innovators who understand biology as well as engineers understand combustion. Seedling producers that ensure consistency, scalability, and health from day one. HVAC and lighting suppliers finely tuned to plant physiology. And software providers that act like the diagnostics and performance systems of modern vehicles. Think of them as the equivalent of brake pad manufacturers, tier-1 engine suppliers, and electronics integrators that scaled alongside—and underpinned—the success of Ford, Toyota, and Tesla. In short: consolidation is coming. But innovation—even failed innovation—is essential. Those who build the scaffolding of the CEA sector, often quietly in the background, will be just as critical to its success as the headline-grabbing farms. Let’s not just learn from history—let’s build on it.

  • this is what planeva is all about! helping growers reduce risk, improve yields, lower time to harvest, and ultimately improve the bottom line of their operations.

Solving a Silent Challenge in CEA: The Seedling Supply Chain In Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), success starts with strong beginnings. Yet, one of the industry's most overlooked challenges remains the clean and consistent supply of young plants. For many growers, seedling production is just one step in a larger operation. At Planteva, it's the whole focus. By dedicating ourselves entirely to young plant production, we’re able to deliver clean, healthy, and uniform starts tailored specifically for controlled environments. This focus gives growers a stronger foundation—reducing variability, improving transplant success, and supporting better overall outcomes. We believe that a more specialized and resilient seedling supply chain will play a key role in the next phase of CEA’s evolution. The more we invest in the start of the process, the stronger the industry becomes.

  • We are raising! come help us build the future of propagation in North America and abroad :)
