About us

2024 BC's Top Employers The City of Maple Ridge is located on the traditional territory of the Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations north of the Fraser River between the Pitt River and Stave Falls in the shadow of the Golden Ears Mountain. Maple Ridge is connected to the south Fraser by the Golden Ears Bridge which puts the City within 45 minutes of the US border, Vancouver International Airport, Abbotsford International Airport and all points in between. The City was established on September 12, 1874 and in the early years European and Japanese settlers established an extensive agricultural industry delivering products to the growing communities in the lower mainland and international markets. A century ago logging and wood production was the predominant industry. The railroad, located on the banks of the Fraser River, was the principal transportation route from Canadian Confederation until the development of the road network, including the Lougheed Highway, which saw the community shift from the riverfront to the current downtown in the early 30s. Maple Ridge has doubled in size every 20 years since 1921 and the most recent Census in 2021 revealed that our population was now over 91,000 citizens. Maple Ridge is one of the fastest growing communities in BC and the investments in the last decade to build the Golden Ears Bridge and the Pitt River Bridge have helped fill a housing boom and new investment in business. The City of Maple Ridge is proud to have 70% of all staff members living in the community reflecting the fact that this is a great place to work, live and play in one of BCs most amazing natural settings.

  • Today, Council formally recognized Chief Superintendent Wendy Mehat, former Ridge Meadows RCMP Officer-in-Charge, for her extraordinary leadership and years of dedicated service to our community. Over her four-year tenure, Superintendent Mehat was a driving force for positive change in Maple Ridge. She launched impactful programs like Ridge FYRST and Project C.O.R.E. and guided our city with strength and compassion through challenging times, including the heartbreaking loss of Constable Rick O’Brien. Her impact goes far beyond our city, including serving as the President of the BC Association of Chiefs of Police, a Director on the Canadian Chiefs of Police Board, the 2024 recipient of the Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces and teaching women police leaders in Indonesia. 🌟 👏Thank you, Superintendent Mehat, for your unwavering commitment to public service and community safety. We’re proud to have been part of your journey and proud to see you continue to lead with excellence as Chief Superintendent with the BC RCMP. 💙 #MapleRidge #RCMP #Leadership #PublicService #ThankYou #CommunitySafety #WomenInPolicing #BCRCMP
