How do you prepare to make cold calls? It's not easy. It can be a grind. It can be a lot of fun. It can also knock the wind out of your sales (see what we did there?). Do you study cold calling tips? Make a fresh coffee? Stare at your script for a couple minutes to make sure you know what you're saying? How about sneak in a quick game of Candy Crush to distract you? Breathing exercises? Wear some cool sunglasses? Do something that puts you in a good mood? We can't tell you what works best for you, but those first 15 seconds (known as "the first 15" 'round here) are EVERYTHING. That tiny window is all you have to establish interest, credibility and trust for prospects to stay on the line. And doing something to be in the right mindset for those 15 seconds, we think, is as important as the call itself. As the kids say, "you gotta lock in!" Let us know - how do YOU get ready for a cold call? Wrong answers only... #SalesTips #ColdCalling #SalesLife #Thefirst15

Do you believe that a sales rep is CEO of their territory? I do. This belief changes your perspective. If the sales rep is the CEO of their territory, then they are the quarterback of each individual deal. Yes it's a mixed metaphor I know. What that means is they are the boss. They need to coordinate and orchestrate resources. Those resources might be their own boss. They get to boss around their boss. Or it might even be the CEO of their company. Salespeople need to have a command for when they bring those people in, why, how, and the desired outcome. This is hard for a lot of sales reps. After all isn't your boss supposed to tell you what to do? My advice: 1. Get over it. The sooner that you realize that you are an entrepreneur with your own mini small business, the better. 2. Above I said 'boss people around,' but the truth is you need to be able to wield influence in a positive and productive way. After all resources are finite. Your colleagues will want to work with a salesperson who is easy to work with, who uses them carefully, and who gets results with closed deals. 3. Finally just because you are the CEO of your own territory does not mean you can ignore the sales process or other frameworks and approaches that are proven to be effective. This is the tricky part for sales leaders. You want to empower your sales people to do whatever they need to in order to be successful. Yes it has to be ethical and legal. And at the same time the sales person still has to live within the box that is the role they are in. that's a tricky balancing act.

Wrapping up my time at Humengine as a Growth Analyst has given me a chance to reflect on just how far I’ve come. This role challenged me to step far outside my comfort zone—and I’m grateful for it. I learned to navigate the world of cold outreach, from building lead lists and managing backend systems to confidently picking up the phone and making cold calls. I booked client meetings, supported growth campaigns, and played a part in how we brought Humengine’s mission to life: helping companies grow by understanding their people better. Every day brought a new challenge, and with it, the chance to grow. The fast-paced, human-focused environment taught me how to adapt quickly, think strategically, and communicate with clarity. Big thanks to the Humengine team for creating a space where curiosity and ambition are met with support and trust. This experience sharpened my mindset, expanded my skill set, and left me excited for what’s next. A big shout out to Adam Wells and Paul Brown for supporting my journey. Thank you to Shobha Lee for guiding me in my development. Looking forward to seeing what they do next🚀

  • Saw this gem from Josh Braun today and had to share it. “Don’t write the message. Find the message.” That line hit hard because it’s exactly how we think about messaging at Humengine. You don’t need to be clever. You need to be curious. Your customers already know how to describe their world. Your job is to listen well enough to reflect it back. #SalesMessaging #ColdEmailTips #SalesStrategy #AuthenticSelling #B2BSales #Humengine

Struggling to book meetings? Getting ghosted? Want to sell without pushing, convincing, or begging? Read this profile.

Cold email tip: Don’t write the message. Find the message. How? Start with a quote from a customer describing the problem. Here’s a quote from CEO of a 28-person company: “One of the most exhausting things as you cross 25 employees is zooming into something super detailed with a team… then zooming out to look at the big picture… then back into sales, then out, then into product. You become a team of teams. It’s not one team anymore. If you don’t have a system to manage that, you become the system.” Now watch how this becomes the first line of a cold email: “Will, with 28 employees, how much of your day is spent zooming in and out from details to big picture?” That’s a head-nod moment. And when prospects nod, they keep reading, because it feels like you get them. But here’s the thing: you can’t fake this. You’re not a CEO of a 28-person company. You’re a salesperson. You have to find these words, not invent them. Your customers are better at writing cold emails than you are. So don’t write like you talk. Write like they talk.

  • 🐶 Meet Gus, Humengine’s most stylish, social, and highly opinionated foodie. Gus belongs to Vicki Formosa, our Chief Marketing Officer, and takes his role as Head of Cuteness very seriously. 🧥 He has a wardrobe that puts most of us to shame, including shirts, sweaters, jackets, bow ties, and even hats. 🐾 His best friends are Wally (the black Pug) and Pepperoni (the fawn Pug), and he LOVES playdates. 🥦 He loves all food except broccoli and lettuce. • Fortune is in the follow-up. But you’ve got to do it right. 📌  Be funny (if you’re actually funny though… don’t force it). 📌 Respect their time. Some folks have a really good reason for not being able to meet right now. 📌 Follow through. Say what you’ll do and do what you say. Sales isn’t about being pushy… it's about showing up and being present when the timing is right. Would love to hear from y’all though… what’s the best (or worst) response you’ve ever gotten from a follow-up? 👀 #Sales #FollowUp #Outbound #SalesTips #MessagingThatWorks
