The SHED Hydrogen Generation and Fueling Station at the The University of British Columbia, designed by DIALOG, has just won a national award! Honoured in the Commercial/Industrial (Small) category by the jury of the Canadian Green Building Awards and SABMag, the $23-million station produces hydrogen using solar and hydro power, creating clean energy locally and making the process completely green and renewable. The project is a critical step in Canada’s transition to a low-carbon economy and a powerful example of sustainable infrastructure in action. A first look at the emerging new front entrance to the reimagined Glenbow Museum! Currently undergoing a major structural renovation, the once-enclosed space is being transformed with a bold new street-facing entrance—bringing natural light into the museum for the first time. “The Northeast entry marks a significant milestone in the construction process as the modification makes way for Glenbow’s first front door,” shares Kyle Auch DIALOG architect and associate working on the project. The museum renovation stands as a vision of urban vibrancy and transparency, welcoming the Calgary community and beyond to Glenbow. This April marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of DIALOG architect Tom Sutherland, an exceptional design talent who dedicated his life to improving our communities and environment. Tom believed the future of design was interdisciplinary. To that end, he championed DIALOG’s integrated structure as a catalyst for collaboration and innovation. As both architect and managing partner, his influence is visible across Edmonton and Alberta. One of his proudest contributions was helping develop Edmonton’s Capital City Downtown Plan—an opportunity he relished as part of his vision to help Edmonton become a great city. In Tom’s honour, DIALOG established the Design Residency—an annual event that brings together architecture students from various universities for a three-day workshop focused on identifying and addressing real community challenges and opportunities. We look forward to this event every year. This year's residency was just held in our Toronto studio, centered around the theme ‘Play Place.’ Tom’s legacy lives on through the joy his designs bring to the community, and in DIALOG’s culture and values.

Last week, DIALOG's Toronto studio, in collaboration with Building Equality in Architecture Toronto hosted an inspiring panel discussion featuring women of DIALOG. Moderated by Chen Cohen and Farah Al Amin, the conversation explored key topics including parenthood, bridging international experience, navigating career paths, and the role of mentorship throughout one's career. Mass timber design is meeting the needs of a changing climate — and we’re framing the way forward!   Join DIALOG Partner Craig Applegath, FRAIC on April 10 for a presentation on the future of mass timber design at the second annual Mass Timber Construction Summit in Vancouver, BC.
