Accelerating neuroscience for brains at their best!

About us

Branch Out accelerates tech solutions and non-pharmaceutical approaches to neurological conditions. Through our grant program, we fund top neuroscientists exploring alternative brain research. Our vision? Accelerating neuroscience for brains at their best! We fund research that fits into the rigorous NeuroCAM (Neuroscience + Complementary & Alternative Modalities) criteria. All research proposals are reviewed by our Scientific Review Panel to ensure it meets the highest quality of research methods and scientific measures. Since 2010, we’ve raised over $3.5 million for alternative brain research, funded over 110 research projects, and have expanded our University Grant Program across Canada. And we’re doing it with an open mind by "branching out" to fund alternative and tech solutions to neurological disorders. 🧠

  • We are excited to announce that we have selected 𝗦𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 to fund this summer! Congratulations researchers and welcome to the Branchy Family! Projects are all neuroCAM* focused and look at ways to improve these neurological disorders: Alzheimer’s, Concussion, Epilepsy, Restless Legs Syndrome, Parkinson's Disease, Spinal Cord Injury, and Stroke. Thrilled to fund projects in these universities: @ucalgary @uoft @sunnybrook @ualberta Special thanks to our Scientific Review Panel, you are amazing! Undergraduate grants are selected based on Branch Out’s neuroCAM model and are reviewed by a Scientific Review Panel. Branch Out received 79 undergraduate applications. *neuroCAM is the study of neuroscience of complementary and alternative modalities. The four modalities are mind-body, nutraceuticals, personalized treatments, and technology. . . . #neuroCAM #neurogrants #newfundedgrants #neurologicaldisorders #undergradgrants #excitingnews #summerresearch #branchoutnf

  • With over 600 neurological disorders affecting people worldwide, research is key to unlocking better understanding and innovative solutions. Since 2010, Branch Out Neurological Foundation has proudly funded five researchers exploring technology, nutraceuticals, and personalized treatment to advance autism research. Their work includes: 🧠 Ketogenic Diet – Investigating how nutrition impacts autism symptoms. ⚡ Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) & Reward Learning – Studying how brain stimulation influences learning and behaviour. 🧩 Building Better Social Connections & STEM Skills – Exploring play therapy to enhance social and cognitive development. 🔄 Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) & Neural Variability – Identifying the most effective brain stimulation targets for autism. Each project brings us closer to a world where neurological disorders, including autism, are better understood and supported through innovative, non-pharmaceutical solutions. Let’s continue to push the boundaries of neuroscience, foster inclusion, and champion the power of research! . . . #worldautismawarenessday #brainhealth #neuroscience #neuroCAM #nutraceuticals #tech #autismresearch #branchoutnf

  • The human brain keeps developing until you are in your late 40s. It is the only organ in the human body to undergo development for such a long time. It also sees more changes than any other organ. Around mid-life, the brain will begin to shrink. However, size doesn’t matter in the brain. There is no evidence that a larger brain is smarter than a smaller one. 🧠 . . . #DYK #brainfacts #brain #brainskrinkage #branchoutnf #didyouknow #neuroscience

  • The ArtsCare Conference will take place in Calgary, Alberta, on April 14, 2025, bringing together local and international scholars, practitioners, and community organizations. This interdisciplinary gathering will explore how the arts support health and well-being, particularly for those with neurological conditions, through innovative research and non-medical therapeutic approaches. Attendees will engage with topics such as Indigenous pathways of art and healing, music and neurological rehabilitation, and opportunities for new professionals and students. We are proud to support this important initiative through a Branch Out Impact Grant. By fostering knowledge exchange, collaboration, and networking, the conference will help grow the ArtsCare community and expand the reach of creative interventions that improve lives. Participants can connect with fellow music, art, mental health, and healthcare allies, experience a variety of expressive arts, and learn how to implement art as part of their care delivery system. • We’re proud to support Alexandra Wasti’s Impact Grant, a project that reflects Branch Out’s commitment to innovative, brain-focused care with real-world impact. Through this initiative, Alexandra will create and distribute over 200 handcrafted concussion care packages to rehabilitation centers throughout Ontario, providing meaningful support to those on their recovery journey. These concussion boxes aren’t just thoughtful—they’re evidence-based, designed to support recovery with items like eye masks for light sensitivity, noise-canceling earplugs, comforting tea, and personalized notes filled with encouragement and critical resources. Patient loneliness is a major factor in brain injury recovery, and by funding this proposal, Branch Out is proud to fund a community project dedicated to helping brain injury patients feel heard and understood across Ontario. Join Alexandra in building these concussion care packages on April 1 from 1-3 pm at the Toronto Rehab Institute -- all are welcome!
