In late winter and early spring, sharp-tailed grouse congregate in established courtship areas known as leks. Beginning before sunrise, males perform for females using elaborate dances and vocalizations. Leks are located in open areas, often on hilltops that provide a good view of the surrounding landscape, allowing the grouse to watch for other grouse and predators. Projects within the sharp-tailed grouse range are regularly required to conduct sharp-tailed grouse surveys to ensure that leks are not impacted by project activities. For more information regarding sharp-tailed grouse surveys and requirements, feel free to contact our team of wildlife Biologists. #WildlifeConservation #GrouseSurvey #SharpTailedGrouse #WildlifeProtection #WildlifeSurveyServices #EnvironmentalServices #EnvironmentalConsulting

Real-time data can guide timely action, reducing environmental impact and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Basin Environmental is here to support your watercourse construction projects and mitigate water quality concerns. #WaterQualityMonitoring #Turbidity #EnvironmentalCompliance #Construction #AquaticProtection

Check out this stunning sighting of a Woodland Caribou! Did you know that Caribou are unique within the deer family (Cervidae) because both males and females grow antlers?🦌 These incredible animals are specifically adapted to survive Alberta's frigid winters. Their coats feature a thick layer of hollow guard hairs that trap heat, keeping them warm in the coldest temperatures. Plus, the have specialized bacteria in their stomachs that help them digest lichens - an essential food source during winter when other options are scarce. Seeing one in the wild is truly a rare treat! #WoodlandCaribou #AlbertaWildlife #BasinEnvironmental
