Make a difference in our communities! Action for Healthy Communities' Board is looking for volunteer Board Members who are driven by the belief that all individuals, including newcomers, with their rich and diverse backgrounds, are critical to Canada's economic growth. The Board of Directors works with the Executive Director to ensure the organization's effective governance, and represent AHC at various forums and attend multiple community activities or events. We are excited to share some snapshots from ELYCA Program's 2025–2026 cohort during their orientation day! This marks a new beginning for our youth participants who come from equity-deserving groups across Edmonton. During their orientation, participants learned the fundamentals of starting a community initiative project and explored the project timeline for their cohort. We cannot wait to share more updates with you as we follow the journey of these incredible changemakers in our society! The Summary of the Newcomer Coach Mentorship Project report identifies spectrum of constraints experienced by newcomers were investigated and identified, including main barriers contributing to low participation of racialized youth in recreation and organized sports. Action for Healthy Communities (AHC) has a long history in Edmonton—a tradition of service and capacity-building we are reflecting on for our 30th anniversary year.
