We're proud to be collaborating with Pibo on this project! 🌱 Thanks to their dedicated work, we're making real progress toward more sustainable farming practices. Together, we're learning how different tillage systems affect water availability — an essential step for smarter, climate-resilient agriculture. 💧
This week we placed the soil moisture sensors back in one of the fields of our sustainable agriculture trial platform. These sensors allow us to monitor soil moisture content and thus water availability for the crops throughout the growing season. We monitor these effects in all three tillage systems: ploughing, direct seeding & non-inversion tillage. For each, a set of three sensors is placed, measuring at depths of 30, 45 and 60 cm. The sensors are connected to our local weather station, through which we receive realtime data in the online dashboard. With measurements every ten minutes, we can plot the moisture content in function of time to study the effects of tillage on soil water levels. The sustainable agriculture trial platform is a collaboration with Raffinerie Tirlemontoise - Tiense Suikerraffinaderij and BENEO. #PIBOCampus #RaffinerieTierlemontoiseTienseSuikerraffinaderij #BENEO
