We're creating safe futures for women and children by ending gender-based violence in a generation.

About us

We create safe spaces for women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence and social disadvantage. We build on the existing strength and resilience of our clients through the provision of therapeutic and practical support, financial independence through training and education opportunities and targeted support for children and young people to break the cycle of violence, intergenerational trauma and social disadvantage. We actively engage our communities and supporters to be a part of the prevention movement to end gender-based violence in a generation.

  • We're thrilled to welcome ARC Capital Group as our newest corporate partner! Together, we're tackling gender-based violence through three key areas: safe housing, financial independence, and closing critical funding gaps. At the heart of Arc Capital Group’s partnership is a commitment to funding what it takes to make long-term change and ensure women and children are supported at every step of their journey. This partnership goes beyond traditional funding—Arc Capital has committed to matched giving during Walk for WAGEC, volunteer engagement, and ongoing support of our work. Corporate partnerships and sustainable investment are essential for organisations like WAGEC to scale our work and meet the ever-rising demand. These mutually beneficial agreements are key to building safe futures for women and children. Together, we're building a future where gender-based violence ends in a generation. Thank you, Arc Capital Group, for standing with us! Read more about our Impact Partnership here: https://lnkd.in/gAimqvB5

  • For the past 47 years, WAGEC have been on the frontlines of the ongoing housing crisis. We understand that experiences of homelessness for women are complex and exist in the context of compounding inequalities and a national emergency of gender-based violence. For the demands of the crisis to ease, we need systems and structures to change. Recently, WAGEC made a submission to the Draft NSW Homelessness Strategy 2025-2035. Our hope is that the new strategy addresses the gendered drivers of homelessness for women and sees increased investment in crisis accommodation. We also hope to see increased investment in transitional accommodation with strengthened pathways to long-term permanent affordable housing.   Read the full submission here: https://lnkd.in/gggEvxDD

  • Investment in frontline services saves lives. Will you join us? With the Federal Election just around the corner, it's time to raise your voices and demand an end to violence against women and children. Step up, take a stand and make a difference. Walk for WAGEC and call to end violence today. Register now: https://lnkd.in/g7jfZNF

  • Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.   This is a moment for reflection and a call to action.   We are proud to share that this year, WAGEC was recognised as an Inclusive Employer by the Diversity Council Australia Ltd. We remain dedicated to fostering inclusivity and are continuously working to enhance cultural safety, ensuring that every individual feels a true sense of belonging at WAGEC. A diverse and inclusive workplace not only enriches our team but also empowers us to deliver the best outcomes for the women and children we serve.   Our achievements would not be possible without the invaluable knowledge, lived experiences, and expertise of our diverse workforce. We are deeply proud of the work our staff are doing both here and overseas to create safer communities and champion racial justice.   Just last week, Kowana Welsh and Dixie Link-Gordon from WAGEC’s Primary Prevention team spoke as advocates for justice for First Nations women experiencing homelessness at the United Nations 69th Commission on the Status of Women in New York. This is just one example of the advocacy that drives social change and works to eliminate racial discrimination.   Today and every day, WAGEC is committed to raising awareness of and taking action against racial discrimination in our community. We believe that everyone belongs here.    You can watch Kowana's and Dixie’s speech at the UN here: https://lnkd.in/g8pJf_3w
