Today is World Autism Day. This month, as we mark Autism Acceptance Month, we’re reminded of the importance of moving beyond awareness -towards understanding, affirmation, and action. At Understanding Zoe, we stand for a future where autistic individuals are not just included, but celebrated for who they are. A future where difference is seen as strength, and support is designed with dignity, agency, and collaboration at its core. And it starts with our children. Here’s how you can support neuroaffirming change this month: 💬 listen to autistic voices – prioritise lived experience 🗣️ use neuroaffirming language – words matter 🧠 challenge stereotypes – autism doesn’t look one way 🌿 create safer, more supportive environments – reduce overwhelm, embrace flexibility 🤝 support families and care networks – a strong village helps people thrive Let’s keep learning, unlearning, and reimagining. Together, we can build a world that embraces autism - not just today, but every day. #worldautismday #autismacceptancemonth #neuroinclusion #neuroaffirming

We hosted our first Understanding Zoe event this week - and we’re still energised by the connections made and insights shared. The Neuro-Inclusive Breakfast: Understanding, Embracing & Designing for Neurodiversity in the Workplace & Beyond brought together over 40 leaders, educators, clinicians, advocates, and innovators across sectors. A heartfelt thank you to Dean Hazelgrove from Collective Objective for co-hosting with Laetitia Andrac 🌈♾️ 🧠, and to Mabel T. for bringing the event to life with such care and intention. Key themes that emerged: 🧠 Small, intentional changes can create big ripple effects in neuro-inclusion. 🧠 Neuroaffirming design isn’t just possible - it’s powerful. 🧠 Understanding is the first step to meaningful, lasting change. One attendee captured it beautifully: “It’s a complex challenge, but one where dipping a toe in and making small changes or educating oneself will deliver big results. Understanding is the path to change.” This is just the beginning - and we’re so grateful to be walking this journey with a growing community of changemakers. #neuroinclusion #neurodiversity #inclusiveleadership #DEI

What does it mean to be neuroaffirming? It’s more than just being “aware” of neurodiversity - it’s about actively embracing and supporting different ways of thinking, learning, and experiencing the world. As part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week (March 17-23), we’re excited to launch our Neuroaffirming Guide: a resource designed to help shift the conversation from “fixing” to celebrating. Here are a few simple ways to be more neuroaffirming: - Say “high support needs” instead of “low-functioning” - Say “lives with autism” instead of “suffers from autism” - Say “needs support” instead of “attention-seeking” Here are some practical tips: 1. Provide quiet spaces for sensory regulation 2. Offer multiple ways to communicate (verbal, written, visual) 3. Respect different ways of socialising—connection looks different for everyone Neurodiversity is a strength, not a problem to solve. Let’s build a world where all minds are valued. 📖 Download our full Neuroaffirming Guide via the link in the comments! #neurodiversityweek #neuroaffirming #understandingzoe #neurodiversity

Neurodiversity is like biodiversity... just as the world thrives when nature is diverse, our communities are richer when we embrace all the different ways people think, learn, and experience the world. This week (March 17-23) is Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and for me, it’s such an important movement. It’s a time when we open up real conversations. I truly believe that understanding neurodiversity is key to making spaces where people feel seen, valued, and supported. This week, I’m speaking to support the movement, and next week, we are hosting an event to keep the momentum going. Because this isn’t just about one week - it’s about real change.
