Is the game up for real estate aggregators? This week on the PPW Pod Simon Baker and I spoke to Adil Osmani, the CEO of Rubrikk Group AS - an aggregator which was unfortunately forced to close down recently. - Google is taking clicks away as it looks to become an 'answer engine' - Portals are tightening their belts and getting stricter with their content - AdSense doesn't pay like it used to "There is something in the air now which is a fundamental shift." But both Adil and Simon think aggregator businesses can still work... but perhaps not in the way they have done up until now. Homes.com only needs to sell to one in eight US #realtors to make more money than Zillow. - Zillow's residential portal business generated $1.45 billion in 2023 - Andy Florance said Homes.com makes around $500 per agent per month - There are an estimated two million agents in the US. One in eight is 250k - Going from 8k agents to 250k nets $1.5 billion assuming no price increases CoStar Group is talking up the traffic but the magic metric is the number of customers.
