Today, on National Pets Day, we're proud to highlight our partnership with Hunter Pet Motel and the incredible Pet Transit Lounge service it offers our pet-owning passengers. Located opposite Departures, the Pet Transit Lounge allows travellers to drop off their precious cargo, park their car, and head straight to check in—knowing their pets will be cared for while away. Since its launch in June 2024, 229 happy tails have used the Transit Lounge, of which 142 went on to enjoy the Pet Motel. According to the RSPCA, 69% of Australian households own a pet, so we know this service is an important offering for many of our passengers. Our partnership with Hunter Pet Motel enhances travel experiences while prioritising pet care. We understand that pets are more than just companions; they're family members. That's why we're committed to making travel easier for pet owners. Inspiring the Next Generation in Aviation Once you get a taste of work in aviation, you never look back! That’s why last week we were proud to partner with Regional Development Australia Hunter's ME Program to host a Women in Aviation Careers Workshop. The day connected around 30 students from across the Hunter Valley with industry leaders, showcased the diverse career opportunities available and gave us a chance to show off our facilities. (Made even more exciting considering we are opening our international terminal in August!) Our Senior HR Service Delivery Manager Emma Aynscough shared her insights of her 16+ years in the aviation industry, holding various roles from Airline Operations Management, Training and Compliance, Facilities Management and now Human Resources. The group also enjoyed presentations from the Royal Australian Air Force, BAE Systems Australia and University of Newcastle. We’re proud to support initiatives that bridge education and industry, empowering young women to explore this dynamic field. Last night’s Sail Port Stephens Street Party was a spectacular celebration of sailing, community and connection – and we were honoured to be on deck as an event sponsor, presenting awards to some of this year’s standout competitors. ⛵🎉 Mayor of Port Stephens, Leah Anderson, welcomed participants with regional pride as the street came alive with food, music and celebration – rain and all! A huge credit to Port Stephens Council for their incredible support of the event. As the region’s airport, we know how important it is to drive visitation to events like this – not just for a great time on the water, but for the significant flow-on benefits to tourism, hospitality and business across the Hunter. On Wednesday, our Executive General Manager of Aviation, Shane de Wit, had the opportunity to speak at the Hunter–Central Coast & New England PPA Training Sessions & Bootcamp, hosted by Business Renewables Centre Australia at The Store in Newcastle.   This workshop series is all about empowering business energy buyers with the knowledge and tools to take up renewable energy through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)—and we were proud to share Newcastle Airport’s journey.   Shane spoke about our own PPA with Flow Power, which we signed in February 2023 to secure 100% renewable electricity for the precinct through to the end of 2030. It’s a key part of our ESG Strategy and is already delivering real outcomes:   🔋 Net Zero Scope 1 & 2 emissions – achieved 6 years ahead of target 🌿 Purchase of ACCU offsets for corporate travel and fuel emissions, supporting native forest regeneration in NSW and QLD 🌏 Achieved Level 4+ Airport Carbon Accreditation, placing Newcastle Airport in the top 12% of airports globally 🏗️ Our 5 Star Green Star terminal expansion, demonstrating Australian excellence in energy efficiency and sustainable design   The PPA provides:   ✅ Long-term price certainty and stability ✅ Access to new wind power (expected from July 2025) ✅ A mechanism to purchase and retire LGCs (100% renewable) ✅ A pathway to decarbonise ground transport across the precinct   We’re proud to be playing a leadership role in regional sustainability and showing that airports can—and should—be part of the renewable energy transition.   Thanks to the team at BRC-A for bringing together businesses from across the region to share knowledge, experience, and ideas that drive real change. We have come a long way! Step by step we are getting closer to our new international terminal opening in August, quietly ticking off every aspect of its completion. This week we are not being quiet! We are so excited to see our very first aerobridge installed marking a critical point in our terminal completion and putting an exclamation point on our commitment to enhanced passenger experiences.   Our region’s new international terminal will offer world-class facilities and infrastructure. At an impressive 31 tonnes and stretching 20 meters long, our new aerobridge will provide seamless access to our stunning new terminal, without the need for stairs or lifts. Gone will be the days of braving the elements on the tarmac. Now, passengers will be able to enjoy the comfort and convenience of direct terminal access, regardless of weather conditions. It can also accommodate various aircraft sizes, from small regional jets to large wide-bodied planes.   We welcomed our aerobridge with a carefully orchestrated operation involving two enormous cranes, a dedicated team of skilled workers, and precision timing. The journey of this massive structure from the Port of Newcastle to its final position on our airfield was a logistical triumph, completed just before the stroke of midnight.   As we enter the final stages of our terminal expansion, this aerobridge stands as a powerful symbol of what's on the horizon for Newcastle Airport and the entire Hunter Region. We're on the cusp of something extraordinary – a future where Newcastle Airport serves as a true global gateway for our region.   Stay tuned as we count down to our grand opening.
