The Leadership in Diabetes Care workshop will be held at Olympic Park, Sydney at the head office of the GWS Giants on April 10-11. The Leadership in Diabetes Care training workshop will step you through the design and implementation of a localised approach to type 2 diabetes. The workshops are for any health professional employed in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The Leadership in Diabetes Care workshops build on the success of Ray's acclaimed Too Deadly for Diabetes program—recognised for significantly improving health outcomes through culturally tailored interventions. The workshops are hands-on and equip participants with evidence-based strategies, effective communication skills, and culturally respectful approaches to tackle type 2 diabetes. By the end of the workshops, participants leave with a personalised action plan tailored to their community’s specific needs, empowering them to drive sustainable, positive change in diabetes prevention and management. Leadership in Diabetes Care is provided in partnership with Diabetes Australia, and with support from the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA), NAATSIHWP (National Association of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Workers), Australian Diabetes Society (ADS), and The Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovations (ACADI) (ACADI). The workshops are funded by NSW Health so there is no cost to the participants. We have limited places so book early so you don't miss out! Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/e8Q4yHgv

🎉🎉🎉 NAATSIHWP is thrilled to announce that we have selected the twelve successful applicants for our first-ever scholarship program dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we were able to fund an additional two scholarships, bringing the total to twelve. This landmark initiative, the Robert Dann Memorial Scholarship, honours the legacy of Robert Dann, a proud Yamatji man and a founding member and inaugural Board Chairperson of NAATSIHWP. His unwavering commitment to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities continues to inspire our work today. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we have awarded 12 scholarships, each valued at $1,000. These scholarships will assist students as they embark on or further their journey in the health workforce, strengthening their skills and qualifications to support their communities. The greatest reported need among applicants was to replace or obtain a laptop, highlighting the essential role of technology in their studies and professional development. We were overwhelmed by the interest in the program, with more than sixty Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker or Health Practitioner students applying. This response underscores the significant demand for support in advancing careers in Indigenous health. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the scholarship recipients and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in the field. Stay tuned as we share more about their journeys and the ways they are shaping the future of Indigenous health. Once again, we express our gratitude to our donors and supporters who made this opportunity possible. Together, we are fostering a stronger, more skilled health workforce for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
