Our founder Andrea Gardiner and our senior partner Ian Gardiner sat with Dion Guagliardo from Fortress Family Office on his podcast to talk about all things startups and founders. Tune in and hear what Jelix Ventures is looking for in the founders it backs.
In this episode, I interview Andrea Gardiner and Ian Gardiner. Andrea is the founder of Jelix Ventures, an early-stage venture capital manager dedicated to supporting startups across Australia and New Zealand. Ian is the co-founder of Innovation Bay, Australia’s leading and longest running startup community. Together, Andrea and Ian have become major pillars in the startup scene, investing in over 45 companies and supporting hundreds more. Throughout the episode, Andrea and Ian talk in-depth about what distinguishes great founders from the rest and the traits they carry that convince investors to fund their companies. Furthermore, they explain why space and energy are some of their favourite themes to invest in and why they think these categories are vastly underrated. If you enjoy this episode, feel free to leave a 5-star review and share with family and friends. Podcast link: https://lnkd.in/gsmEWt47

It has been an amazing experience supporting Mickael Roger, Pablo Gil Brusola and the rest of the PropHero team, flawlessly executing their vision at an incredible speed. With phenomenal revenue growth and EBITDA > 0, this investment enables PropHero to grow even faster whilst continuing to delight customers across the globe. Amazing to think it is only a few short years since we first met, and invested in, the team. We have followed on in every round since and this round is no exception. What a journey it has already been and we are so excited we can continue to support the team on this rocketship. Vamos!!
PropHero just closed its $25M Series A !!!! 🚀 BIG DAY for PropHero, as we've just closed our Series A round of funding!🚀 Very proud to see Bailador Technology Investments (ASX:BTI) and Opera Tech Ventures join our rocketship! Since PropHero is already profitable, we are not raising this round to survive, but instead to grow even faster and continue building the world's first #GenAI #RealEstate #WealthManagement Platform! 3 years ago, Pablo Gil Brusola and I embarked on a journey to "bring a shelter to the world", with 3 main objectives: 📈 Provide Real Estate #investors with the best returns and almost 0 effort through our #AI Wealth engine 🏘️ Improve tenants' living conditions through beautifully renovated properties 🌍 Help protect the environment through eco-friendly builds and renovations (already 24,000 tons of CO2 saved, the equivalent of 1.1m trees planted!) Huge thanks to all our PropHeroes for making it happen. As usual, THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING! VAMOS!!!! https://lnkd.in/e3Q29cbJ

Jelix's Director and partner Ian Gardiner got some recognition in the AFR today for his support of the amazing Mark Dombkins and his Forever Projects charity. We love what Mark is doing - take a look - https://lnkd.in/gGG_qnWi
When my wife Anna and I moved to Tanzania, we never imagined our personal journey would lead to today's feature in The Australian Financial Review. Yet here we are, witnessing how a simple question can spark a change! As adoptive parents of three Tanzanian siblings, we kept returning to one crucial question: What could have changed in our children's biological mother's story to prevent abandonment and malnourishment? The answer was already emerging through the baby home where we adopted our children. They had begun piloting a revolutionary 12-month program that empowers women through income generation while ensuring proper nutrition for their babies, which ultimately was able to keep families together. They had the solution. They just needed the means to scale. What began as grassroots fundraising with friends and family naturally evolved into Forever Projects, a non-profit with a unique approach. Though we operate in the social impact space, we've been fortunate to be embraced by Australia's tech community. The insights gained from leading startup founders and operators have shaped our organizational DNA, bringing efficiency and innovation to our mission. Our transparent 100% model sets us apart: Core donors - Visionary investors, founders, and startup operators who understand that impact requires infrastructure. Their support covers our operational costs, enabling complete transparency for our public donors. Public donors - Every dollar from our community goes directly to Tanzania, creating lasting change for families in need. Since 2015, our impact has grown beyond our wildest dreams: over $2M invested, 1,940 women empowered, and 2,558 babies nourished across six Tanzanian cities. As we enter our second decade, three opportunities energize us: 💥 Expanding our core donor network to accelerate impact 💥 Growing our Australian team and community 💥 Partnering to scale across Tanzania, East Africa, and beyond We've learned that transformation works both ways. As we help others find their path to self-sufficiency, we find ourselves transformed by the journey. Will you join us in writing the next chapter? Read more about what we’re building in this excellent article by Yolanda Redrup in today’s AFR.

We have hit the ground running at Jelix with our first investment of the year closing imminently - keep your eyes peeled as it is a super exciting one! In the midst of this, we nearly forgot to do an EoY wrap up… We felt like 2024 was a peculiar year for the ecosystem; we had some great highs, but also some lows. This rollercoaster ride of being in Venture Capital certainly has a good way of keeping you on your toes at all times and it looks like it will continue to do so with the release of DeepSeek (don’t worry, we will save you all from another ‘hot take’ on this!). What has remained constant throughout the year, is our continued unwavering support of backing the best early stage founders in Aus & NZ. We took part in 9 deals, and welcomed 6 awesome new companies to the portfolio; Fugu, Aera , Nominal Systems, NRN - National Renewable Network, VXB Aerospace and Inquisitive. More than anything, we love getting to know these amazing founders and supporting them on tackling some of the biggest challenges the world faces. 2025 has started where we left off and we can’t wait to continue to demonstrate why we are one of the leading VCs down under for the most ambitious Aussie companies. Working on something new? Let’s have a chat!

Interesting article in the The Australian Financial Review reporting a positive shift in the venture capital landscape for 2025. Established funds seem to be attracting the lion's share of new capital, reflecting growing investor confidence. However, the improving economic climate is also expected to benefit smaller, high-performing funds (like, ahem, Jelix Ventures), indicating a more favorable environment across the board. Some good quotes (and photo) from our founder and CEO Andrea Gardiner in here 🙏 https://lnkd.in/gixvN574

Woo Hoo! Well done Jeka and the team at Syenta! At Jelix we are proud to have been an early investor that continues to back your work developing the next generation of semi conductor chip making tools!
We are elated to announce that Syenta has been awarded $2M under the 5th round of #PhysicalSciencesFund(PSF), which is a competitive development and commercialisation program for technological innovations in NSW. We are building the next generation of semiconductor chip manufacturing tools. With our stamp-based deposition technology, we can fabricate the critical chip components needed for AI and quantum computing faster and cheaper. This funding will accelerate our product development and bring some critical capabilities in-house. Excited for Jelix to back NRN and its truly innovative business model to deploy batteries and solar far more widely than exists today.
☀️ We are excited to announce our continued backing of NRN - National Renewable Network, in an oversubscribed, $4.28m round. This investment comes via members of our Club Investible syndicate, alongside Electrifi Ventures, Ecotone Ventures and Jelix Ventures — following NRN's previous raise, led by the Investible Climate Tech Fund. Alan Hunter and his hungry team have done immense work scaling NRN's renewable energy marketplace, on track to deploy solar and batteries to 2,000 homes per month.
