Great advice from our Deputy Secretary David Mackay on creating a #supportive and #inclusive work culture. If you want to #WorkWithUs visit our website to see our current vacancies ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eF7rbkuT
‘Leading people is a privilege.’ Our second session with David Mackay, deputy secretary for Regions, Cities, and Territories in the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, Annabel Reid, CEO of Carers Australia, and Joyce Torres, engagement director, National Indigenous Australians Agency discussed inclusive work in hybrid and remote settings: 💡Know yourself 💡Genuinely ask how people are feeling 💡If you’re a carer, you do carry more responsibility after work - be mindful of that 💡Healthy workplaces have boundaries 💡Building rapport means building a psychologically safe environment – people need to feel comfortable to have difficult conversations 💡Role model when you take leave and empower others to do the same 💡Create a culture that allows for better integration of our complex lives 💡Reflect on what it means to deliver an outcome as a public servant – as a leader with a team, includes reporting the basis of your decision 💡As a leader, it’s your job to not lose sight of what your responsibilities are as a public servant looking towards the future 💡Be a keen record keeper, so you don’t repeat conversations with communities when it’s not necessary 💡Some public servants cannot work from home, for example in frontline roles or in secure environments 💡Expectations of managers have increased- you need to be adaptable and flexible and look after every individual Thank you to Kieran Vassallo, director at the Department of Infrastructure for expertly facilitating this panel. Attended today? Make sure to add your insights in the comments #InclusiveWork #HybridWork
