Key advances in technology have the power to transform lives and shape the future. Today, at the Smart Energy Conference in Sydney, we announced that vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology is market-ready a milestone for sustainable energy and future networks. In collaboration with CSIRO, Sigenergy, and AUSEV®, we have successfully connected AUSEV’s Ford F-150 Lightning using a combined charging system (CCS2) DC bi-directional charger with the Clean Energy Council-approved Sigenergy storage system. The connection of V2G technology unlocks the potential for customers to maximise the value of their renewable energy investments and is a critical step in facilitating the adoption of electric vehicles, according to our Chief Operating Officer, Luke Jenner. About us
Essential Energy builds, operates and maintains one of Australia’s largest electricity distribution networks, providing a vital service to 890,000 customers across 1,500 regional, rural and remote communities. Our network footprint covers 95 per cent of New South Wales and parts of southern Queensland, traversing 737,000 square kilometres of diverse landscape from the desert to the coast, across alpine to sub-tropical. Delivering safe and reliable power for our communities is at the core of what we do. The poles and wires that line our streets deliver the energy that powers the homes, hospitals, schools and businesses that form our communities. But they can also allow for communities to generate, share and store their own electricity. Through innovation and technology, we are actively supporting the energy transition by inspiring and enabling the network of the future. Underpinning this is our commitment to the safety of our employees, contractors and the community. We strive to continuously improve our safety performance, and we work with the people we serve to promote electrical safety awareness. With a workforce of over 3,500, our employees are building careers, connecting communities and growing together. Essential Energy also provides water and sewerage services to 20,000 customers in Far West NSW.

It's rare to find a business where every employee might tell you they do the same job. But for us, no matter where our people fit, they'll likely say they keep the lights on, the hot water flowing, the dinner cooking, the phone charging, and the kids gaming. This common goal unites us, but it’s not our only shared goal, we are also deeply committed to looking after each other, ensuring everyone's safety, and fostering an inclusive environment where every member is valued. Our Chief of People, Amalie Smith, joined the conversation on Employee Experience Redefined at the National HR Summit last week. Amalie shared insights into the initiatives we provide to cultivate this unique culture, and the importance of building a diverse and inclusive workforce. Embracing new technology to manage over 10 million assets, streamline maintenance requirements, and provide a comprehensive view of our asset management systems demands robust solutions to ensure sustainability. At the Oracle Cloud World Tour in March, we announced the integration of the Oracle Fusion Cloud Application Suite with Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Cloud Services (WACS) into our systems. This integration enhances our business insights, improves operational efficiency, and optimises workforce management to meet evolving customer expectations. Speaking at the Innovation inflection point, our Enterprise Applications Manager, Steve Howe along with our Oracle ERP Manager, Mukesh Arora spoke about the move from on-premises Apps to Fusion Applications and the benefits in harnessing data insights, optimising maintenance processes, and maximising asset value crucial for all our customers. As we strive to implement sustainable and reliable energy across our extensive network, we recognise the importance of engaging our regional, rural and remote customers. Last week, we visited Narrabri, a town at the forefront of renewable energy innovation, to participate in the New Energy Expo hosted by Geni.Energy Limited. Our Head of Commercial Development, Andrew Hillsdon, delivered an insightful presentation on our network's potential, battery trials, electrification, the growth of electric vehicle charging, and vehicle-to-grid technology. We also had the pleasure of sharing information about exciting new career opportunities at our event stall. Narrabri's commitment to renewable energy, exemplified by projects like the Narrabri Solar Farm and the Community Battery Project, made it the perfect location for this event. We are grateful to the volunteers and organisers for creating such a fantastic community event. Nicola Barwell, Josh Galloway #RegionalNSW #EnergyTransition #SolarFarms

We are proud to have participated in the First Nations Employment Index 2025, developed by the The Alliance (National Indigenous Employment & Training Alliance). This initiative aims to provide comprehensive insights into employment trends, challenges, and opportunities for Australian organisations and First Nations communities. The research outlines a pathway toward meaningful employment for First Nations people to foster a diverse talent pipeline that supports innovation and growth. This, in turn, helps address employment disparities and enhances economic and social outcomes. The index brings positive news, highlighting several impactful pathways and offering a detailed employer roadmap based on the Active Learning Cycle: Listen, Yarn, and Act. We would like to acknowledge the artwork featured in this document, created by Ena Oscar Majapula Nanaku (1957-2024). Unpredictable weather conditions can significantly impact our network. The recent power interruptions and network damage in Northern NSW caused by Ex-Cyclone Alfred highlight the potential risks we face. To address these challenges, and to build resilient network structure we are implementing state-of-the-art technology to optimise vegetation management, crucial for maintaining our assets and ensuring customer safety. Our Network Risk Senior Specialist, Alex Bardon 家驊, and Data Scientist, Oscar Gibson, will discuss our innovative approach at the AMPEAK conference 'New Waves in Asset Management' in Queensland next week. They will cover how we use machine learning and spatial measurements from LiDAR data within a Digital Twin platform to monitor and maintain our extensive network. How many times have you used AI today? It's likely more than you think, as AI systems increasingly underpin our everyday activities in ways that aren't always visible. Integrating digital enhancements, including AI, across our operations is crucial for maximising operational efficiency and enabling smart, safe, and reliable energy systems. Our Chief Digital Officer, Sarah McCullough recently had a fireside (human) chat with Professor Toby Walsh at the ACS (Australian Computer Society) Industry Insights event. They discussed how the decentralisation of the energy network is sparking a revolution in digitisation and how AI is being optimised for energy forecasting, demand management, and predictive maintenance through programs such as Digital Twin technology. Got a figure yet? Well, while some of our operations are utilising or testing AI – we can assure you our communications people are very human! The topic of Diversity and Inclusion might once have been a mere checkbox on an agenda, with little action to follow. However, gender equality is no passing trend. Leading the charge is WORK180, which recently conducted a rigorous assessment of 5,000 workplaces to identify the top 101 workplaces for women. We are proud to announce that we ranked in the top 2%, securing 5th position. The true winners, however, are our talented female staff working in offices and fields across regional, rural, and remote NSW. We remain committed to supporting them throughout their career journeys.
