“I’m not moving mountains (yet), but I’m taking the small wins as they come…” Graduate Policy Officer Pia Deluca resonates with Queensland Youth Week’s intention to celebrate what young people bring to their communities and to the state. She believes it’s never been more important to encourage and inspire. This week we celebrate Queensland Youth Week, shining a spotlight on DPC’s young people and the unique perspectives they bring to our department. “We can learn from the creativity of our youth to help face complex issues that the government has long grappled with, and also to shape policy that relates directly to young people,” Pia says. Bringing the state together for Australia Day ✨ How do you get a state three times the size of Texas celebrating at the same time? No small feat, but our Engagement and Partnerships team found the secret sauce to pull off just that for Australia Day. Creating an epic program that brought Queenslanders together to reflect, respect and celebrate, the team were behind a huge schedule of events that included: - Great Australian Bites in five locations across Queensland, showcasing local food and home-grown talent and giving people from all walks of life the opportunity to celebrate together - Townsville Flag Raising Ceremony, attended by the Premier and Governor of Queensland - Queensland’s 38 Australia Day Ambassadors attending events across the length and breadth of the state. Demonstrating what the Australian, and Queensland, spirit is all about, the team brought experience and dedication to create memorable experiences for thousands of Queenslanders—and set the stage for ever more impactful and inclusive events in years to come.
