About us
DEM leads the global transformation economy, overseeing the responsible mining and production of the minerals, metals and fuels of the future, to safely and sustainably generate the energy and low carbon products of the future. Our low cost power, leading regulation system and culture of innovation is leading to the decarbonisation of industry, new modern manufacturing opportunities, increased employment and greater prosperity and security for the people of South Australia. We particularly acknowledge the essential role that traditional Aboriginal people play in the energy and mining sector as land managers, heritage custodians, business owners and community leaders. The Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) acknowledges Aboriginal people as the First Nations Peoples of South Australia. We recognise and respect the cultural connections as the Traditional Owners and occupants of the land and waters of South Australia, and that they continue to make a unique and irreplaceable contribution to the State.

Under a new small claims compensation scheme, South Australian households and small businesses can now seek compensation for property damage caused by failures in electricity distribution infrastructure. 🏠⚡ South Australia is the first state to introduce a scheme like this, that provides compensation for property damage to households and small businesses who previously could not recover losses suffered due to electrical infrastructure equipment failure. These changes close a gap for householders and small business owners who find themselves out of pocket through no fault of their own on the rare occasions that something goes wrong with SAPN’s electrical infrastructure. To learn more about claimable and non-claimable incidents, compensation limits, the claims process, and historical claims, visit https://lnkd.in/d2QBmQ7H #SmallClaimsCompensationScheme #ElectricalInfrastructure #households #Smallbusinesses

On Wednesday night, South Australia's Virtual Power Plant Virtual Power Plant (SA VPP) proudly received the Social and Community Infrastructure Award at the UDIA National Awards for Excellence! 👏🏻🏆 This transformative project provides nearly 7000 social housing tenants with lower electricity rates. It remains the largest VPP in Australia and a model for how decentralised community generated energy - solar and battery combined with smart technologies - can enable a two-way power-flow to support the grid and deliver shared benefits. Congratulations to everyone involved in the success of the SA VPP. National Close the Gap Day encourages us to unite and raise awareness towards achieving health equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through the Remote Area Energy Supply (RAES) scheme, we are committed to providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective electricity to homes and businesses in remote South Australia. This initiative provides around 3,400 customers across 28 remote townships and Aboriginal communities with electricity. We recognise and celebrate the resilience and success of First Nations communities and will continue working toward meaningful outcomes to close the gap. Together, our actions can create a lasting change. Let's be part of the generation that close the gap.
