  • A heartfelt thank you to LGT Crestone team and all the speakers for creating such an insightful and inclusive experience.

Last week, LGT Crestone hosted an exclusive event in Melbourne for our Mandarin-speaking guests, delving into the evolving economic and investment landscape amid today’s uncertainty and volatility. Scott Haslem, LGT Crestone's Chief Investment Officer, provided key insights before introducing a distinguished panel discussion on positioning investment portfolios for 2025. The panel, featuring Josh Norton from IFM Investors, Andrew Lockhart from Metrics Credit Partners, Mingchen Xia from Hamilton Lane, and LGT Crestone’s Senior Asset Allocation Specialist Matthew Tan, CFA Tan, explored the role of alternative investments, including Infrastructure, Private Credit, and Private Equity. Speakers engaged in both Mandarin and English, with live translation available for attendees. Thank you to Eric Gao from Boman Group, Mingchen Xia from Hamilton Lane, Andrew Lockhart from Metrics, Josh Norton from IFM, Michael Chisholm, Scott Haslem, and Matthew Tan for their invaluable contributions to a fascinating and insightful discussion. • Julius Wei's thought on Federal Budget 2025: This is a federal budget aimed at winning votes with a headline tax cut, but has very little substance for the business or startup community. It’s arguable that the only businesses who directly benefit from an uptick in consumer spending will see a tangible benefit from this budget. Of the big ticket items that do affect emerging business, perhaps the most questionable is the Front Door for investors, which has been introduced as part of the Future Made In Australia policy. While addressing this is a step forward, do we really need another committee to vet investments coming into Australia? FIRB’s current level of transparency with its decisions on overseas property investment is questionable at best. More broadly, while we may see more measures announced during the impending election, it’s a shame to see that there’s no broader appetite for structural tax reform — the kind that throws income tax, GST and business tax on the table, with the aim of creating a fairer system for all. There’s appetite from the broader community on this, but a lack of political willpower. Thank you Startup Daily. Read the full comment here: https://lnkd.in/gvCYi8c9

    Partner at Boman Group

At Boman Group, I've been fortunate to observe the global development trajectories of exceptional companies through a dual perspective: First, through our Global Unicorn Investment Strategy, where we invest in technology companies at their expansion stage, witnessing how they transcend geographical limitations to achieve exponential growth. Second, through our Corporate Advisory business, I've worked alongside outstanding companies from the Asia-Pacific region, exploring boundless global opportunities and helping them establish competitive advantages in international markets. Meanwhile, my learning experience at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business has provided me with a more macro-level thinking framework—examining global strategic planning from the perspective of enterprise top-level strategic design, and considering how to make optimal decisions in an uncertain international environment. My sincere thanks to the Capital Brief team for sharing my observations. I look forward to continuing in-depth exchanges with more technology innovation leaders and industry pioneers as we explore strategic opportunities and challenges in this era of globalization! #GlobalStrategy #TechInnovation #CorporateDevelopment #CKGSB #CapitalBrief

Too many Australian companies expand overseas too soon, writes Boman Group partner, Eva Zhuang. The Australian market is a fraction of the opportunity abroad, which leads startups to expand overseas early into their journey. But in the process, they often leave market share back home on the table and underestimate the costs of entering a new market.
