Celebrating member and State success CArb Aus is rapt to share Interlink apprentice; Harry Roberts from Brisbane City Council was recently awarded the Harry Hauenschild Queensland Apprentice of the Year for 2024. From an industry perspective, it is extremely gratifying that an arborist has taken out the highest apprenticeship award in the State, this highlights the role of arboriculture in the community from both a government and a public perspective.

WORKING TOGETHER TO #SaveourHyde 🌳🌳 Let’s stop the spread of this deadly tree beetle! That was the goal at a recent event in Hyde Park, north of Perth’s CBD. The idea was to map out the activity of the PSHB (polyphagous shot-hole borer) in the trees. It was also an effort to find an easy way to see if a tree is infected, ensuring that only the infested trees are cut down and destroyed. Over 100 people from 6 organisations came together to organise the event with 44 volunteers including tree climbers and ground staff gathering as much information as possible. “The threat of tree removals due to the PSHB infestation poses a significant risk to the landscape. Ultimately the Save Our Hyde effort is a step toward addressing the biosecurity risks posed by climate change, something that is high on Arb Australia’s agenda,” said Meg Caffin, Chair of Arb Aus. Native to South-East Asia, the polyphagous shot-hole borer is the size of a sesame seed and was first detected in Western Australia in 2021. So far, it’s been contained to Perth and the Save Our Hyde initiative is part of a larger effort to stop the beetle spreading to the rest of Australia. For full story https://loom.ly/5TuVbTE
