If you think about a sustainable "green" future, do you think about gender equality? 💭 Last week, at the SIC!connect at BDO Austria, I talked about the intersection of women & sustainability, a link rarely at the center of the conversation — but it should be. Women are not only more affected by the climate crisis, they’re one of the most overlooked forces in solving it. What do I mean with this? We have a massive #genderdatagap across industries. There has been and still continues to be collected by far more data about men than about women. However, where we have gender-segregated data the numbers are clear. Consider the startup space - two thirds of #femalefounders start their business with the primary motivation to solve a social or ecological challenge - TWO THIRDS!! If we’re serious about sustainability, gender equality is at its core. What do you think? How can you tackle Food Waste or Urban Heat Islands? Our cooperation partner, the RCE at WU (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien) is organising a free workshop in English on 16 May 2025 within their EU project Urban Shift on the topics of design thinking, innovation and entrepreneurial skills in relation to ‘Food Waste/Circularity and Urban Heat Islands’. 🚮 🔥 🔄 Join them for a one-day free crash course workshop dedicated to cultivating green ideation and essential design thinking skills. Today, we want to introduce Cameron McKnight , also a new impact intern! He is majoring in Government and Law/Economics at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. We are very excited to have him on board! 🎉 Cameron McKnight - #Impact Intern Which project are you working on and what tasks do you carry out there? I am helping the team by reviewing EU sustainability regulations. I am specifically working on reading and analyzing the #ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) which was passed last year. The first delegated acts of this regulation are set to come into effect mid-year, so I am working to prepare a briefing for the team. 🇪🇺 What motivated you to do an internship in the field of sustainability/circular economy? I am a passionate skier who has grown up in the mountains of New Hampshire, Utah, and British Columbia. I want to work towards a more sustainable business model to ensure that my children will be able to enjoy the beauty of nature just as I was. I also have an interest in economic policy in general, and the world of sustainability was an area I had less prior knowledge on. ⛷️ 🏔️ What knowledge or experience would you like to take away from this internship? As a student with an interest in policy, getting real world experience reading and working with government regulation is valuable. I hope to leave the internship with a greater understanding of sustainable business practices, as well as the steps it takes to help companies achieve them. I also am enjoying working as part of a #team, especially one that is so dedicated to what they do. Thank you Cameron, for your dedication to thinkubator.earth! Currently, I am involved in marketing and assisting in consultancy work.    What motivated you to do an internship in the field of sustainability/circular economy? I believe that businesses hold immense potential to drive positive change. Companies should not only be viewed as entities purely driven by profit but also as problem solvers addressing the challenges we face as a society. I am eager to explore how sustainability can be effectively integrated into business models. 💡   What knowledge or experience would you like to take away from this internship? I want to deepen my understanding of the circular economy, particularly how businesses can practically implement circular strategies and the various components of sustainable consultancy.
