What would it be like to be a part of helping someone hear again or even for the first time? Over the past 15 years, Marco Eder, Group Leader of CI Production in Implant Manufacturing, has done just that. Starting in silicone molding, he progressed through various leadership roles and now empowers his team to thrive both personally and professionally. 💡 “The change from focusing on technology to leading people was a completely new challenge. Suddenly, it was no longer just about processes and technical solutions, but about supporting people in their development,” explains Marco. “Today, my main task is to recognize strengths, promote potential and set up our team in such a way that everyone can perform their best—and enjoy doing so. We are more than just a team. We are a community in which everyone supports each other, and we grow together. And that's exactly what makes this job so fulfilling for me.” When asked what makes MED-EL such a unique place to work, Marco shares: 🦻 "Seeing the positive impact this product has on our recipients, along with the opportunities for personal growth at MED-EL, makes me excited to go to work every day." His advice for anyone considering joining MED-EL? 💬 "Join— you won't regret it! MED-EL offers the opportunity to meet recipients with our implants in person—a unique and very emotional experience. I think there is no better way to experience and feel the meaning of our work than in such encounters.” Thank you, Marco, for sharing your experience with us at MED-EL! #EmployeeSpotlight #CareerGrowth #InnsbruckJobs #AustriaJobs

A deaf ear is not a dead ear. That’s why implantation procedures that do minimal harm are of the utmost importance to ensure your patients can benefit from future technologies. These future technological advances, including cochlear implant technology, may be able to leverage residual hearing and functioning structures to restore hearing perception. Atresiaplasty or BONEBRIDGE: which offers better hearing outcomes for unilateral congenital aural atresia (UCAA)? Authors Zhu et al. compared the audiological outcomes of 27 children (aged 5 to 12) with UCAA: • 13 subjects were implanted with BONEBRIDGE (BCI 601 with the Amadé audio processor) • 14 subjects underwent atresiaplasty Audiological tests, including pure-tone audiometry, sound field threshold (SFT), speech reception threshold (SRT), word recognition score (WRS), and sound localization, were performed one month pre-op and six months post-op. The conclusion? “Both atresiaplasty and BONEBRIDGE implantation can improve speech recognition in noise and sound localization. Compared to atresiaplasty, BONEBRIDGE implantation may offer superior hearing benefits to patients with UCAA.” Read more about this International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology study here: https://lnkd.in/dfVite_S #BONEBRIDGE #AuralAtresia #CongenitalAuralAtresia #Atresiaplasty #MedicalResearch #MedTech

What makes our VIBRANT SOUNDBRIDGE active middle ear implant system special? SOUNDBRIDGE vibrates the ossicular chain directly. While bone conduction implants can generate feedback and crosstalk to the contralateral side above a certain level of vibration, SOUNDBRIDGE exclusively stimulates the implanted middle ear. Powerful, ear-specific vibratory stimulation enables true binaural hearing for great sound localization and excellent speech understanding in noise. With over 25 years of proven results and reliability, learn more about VIBRANT SOUNDBRIDGE for your patients here: https://lnkd.in/dgyhqdKP #MiddleEarImplant #Audiologist #Audiology

79% of cochlear implant users prefer tonotopic maps.⁽¹⁾ That’s according to a systematic review and meta-analysis that included recipients from all cochlear implant manufacturers. ❗ However, only MED-EL provides clinicians the tools for anatomy-based fitting: OTOPLAN and MAESTRO. Anatomy-based fitting, a feature of MAESTRO, can be used to provide new CI users tonotopic maps, which have been shown to reduce mismatch and, on average, deliver: ✅ Speech perception benefits when compared to conventional default maps.⁽²⁾⁽³⁾⁽⁶⁾ ✅ Improved sound quality and music perception for MED-EL CI users.⁽³⁾⁽⁴⁾ And according to recent research, most patients preferred listening with tonotopic maps.⁽²⁾⁽⁵⁾⁽⁶⁾ Check out the graph below 👇. It shows an example of how an anatomy-based fitting map might differ from a default map with a MED-EL CI user with an electrode insertion depth of 630 degrees (1.75 turns). Imaging data and OTOPLAN were used for a post-operative analysis to: • Determine the angular insertion depth of the electrode array (dark gray dotted line). • Locate each electrode (dots). • Calculate how these correspond to the natural tonotopic frequency map of the patient's cochlea. After that, in MAESTRO (version 9.0 or later) you can perform anatomy-based fitting: • Import anatomic location data from each implanted ear. • Adjust frequency bands according to the exact locations of each electrode contact (colored bars). It sounds simple: A successful hearing device is one that is worn. But the reality is that pain, discomfort, and stigmatization often lead to low device usage. That’s where ADHEAR—the world’s first non-surgical bone conduction hearing system—can make a difference. It has made a big difference for Juan Pablo who was born with hearing loss due to microtia. “During my studies, I discovered that there are better alternatives to bone conduction headbands.” Juan Pablo, who is now an audiologist in Mexico, started using ADHEAR on one side. Later, he received a BONEBRIDGE implant on the other side. “If I were to rate how natural hearing with ADHEAR and BONEBRIDGE is on a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 indicated natural hearing. I would give ADHEAR an 8 and BONEBRIDGE a 9.” Learn more about ADHEAR here: https://lnkd.in/eqdFh6rZ #BoneConduction #ConductiveHearingLoss #SingleSidedDeafness #SSD
