👏We made history!   For the first time ever a legally binding international agreement, the #PandemicAgreement, includes #OneHealth and prevention at source.   This means tackling root causes of #pandemics:   🐾 wildlife trade   🏭 factory farming   🌳 habitat destruction    This is a major win for humans, animals & the planet. 🤝🌍    Now we’ll continue working with our partners and member states to submit the Pandemic Agreement to the 78th World Health Assembly (#WHA78), secure its signature, support its entry into force, and prepare for follow-up actions. 💪    #AnimalWelfare #FOURPAWS

🦉 A Sanctuary for Wildlife in Need 🦅 At the OWL & BIRDS OF PREY RESCUE STATION Haringsee, injured and orphaned wild animals find expert care and a second chance at life. From owls recovering after accidents to hedgehogs needing urgent support, our dedicated team provides medical treatment, rehabilitation, and, whenever possible, a return to their natural habitat. 150 global food companies. 80+ billion animals. One benchmark that reveals the truth. 🔎🐄 The latest Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW) shed light on who’s leading – and who’s still lagging – when it comes to animal welfare in the global food sector. 👏 The good: Leaders like Marks and Spencer, Waitrose & Partners, and Premier Foods are showing that animal welfare can be an integral part of business strategy, with measurable impact. ⚠️ The not-so-good: Nearly 80% of companies, including household names like Nestlé, McDonald's’s and Walmart, remain in the lowest tiers for the second year in a row. Most offer limited to no evidence of meaningful welfare practices. The shift is slow, but it’s happening:  🌱 14 companies improved their rankings  🐖 45% now recognise animal sentience, an increase from 36% in 2023  🍽️ More companies are reducing their reliance on animal-sourced food Together with Compassion in World Farming, FOUR PAWS proudly supports BBFAW in holding companies accountable and encouraging real, systemic change. According to the World Health Organization, over 200 million dogs, and even more cats, live as stray animals around the globe, often facing disease, starvation, or brutal deaths. 🐈🐕 These animals are not just suffering — they’re a reflection of broken systems in need of compassionate, sustainable solutions. Cruel methods like mass sheltering or killing are still used in many places, but they’re ineffective, costly, and inhumane. 💔 At FOUR PAWS, we advocate for CNVR — Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return — a proven, humane method that works for both animals and the people who live alongside them. ✅ As we celebrated #WorldStrayAnimalDay last week, we were reminded of the urgency and importance of tackling this global issue with kind and effective solutions. 🚨️ To support stray animals in need, FOUR PAWS, together with local partners, conducts free neutering campaigns and provides expertise to authorities, communities, and shelters. In 2024 alone, our teams treated over 30,000 stray cats and dogs across three continents, offering neutering, rabies vaccinations, and vital medical care. These actions not only reduce suffering and control populations but also help protect communities from disease. 💉 Local governments and communities play a crucial role. Heavily Pregnant Animals Should Not Be Subjected to Live Animal Transport. 🚫🐄 Long and stressful journeys can lead to premature births — or even cause these vulnerable animals to lose their babies. 💔 As the #LiveTransportLegislation moves forward, the European Parliament has a crucial opportunity to end this suffering and improve animal welfare standards across Europe. 📢 Call for change. Meet Ottilie – the Brave Little Otter! 🦦💙 When a farmer in Naarn an der Donau, Austria, heard desperate whimpering from a shed, he discovered a heartbreaking sight – a tiny, exhausted otter pup, barely hanging on. 💔 After a short stay at a wildlife station, she arrived at our OWL & BIRDS OF PREY Rescue Station Haringsee, where she is now receiving the urgent care she needs. Poor Ottilie had chafed paws, an abscess on her head, and was completely exhausted, but this little fighter is already showing remarkable resilience! She’s eating on her own and getting stronger every day. ✨ Fun fact: The team initially thought she was a boy and named her “Otti”… until they found out otherwise! Now, she’s our brave Ottilie. ✨ Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to heal her while ensuring she doesn’t become too accustomed to humans – a crucial step for her future release into the wild. Why are species-specific rules needed in the EU's legislation on live animal transport? 📜🇪🇺 Right now, animals are only protected by general standards in the sector that disregard their individual needs. In many cases, these blanket rules do not go far enough to protect their welfare... particularly when it comes to especially sensitive animals, like chickens. 🐔 Farmed birds are very sensitive to being transported, yet they make up a huge amount of the trade – you can address these problems right now! 🚛 The European Parliament and the Council are currently amending the European Commission’s proposal on live animal transport, providing a unique opportunity for policymakers to transform this sector for the better. The True Cost of Convenience Meals is Higher Than You Think 🥫   Ready-made meals – frozen, chilled, or canned – are a popular go-to solution for busy days, driving significant demand. In fact, the convenience food sector accounts for 7.15% of the global food market, with retail sales reaching EUR 533 billion in 2022. 🍽️ But behind this growing industry and tempting convenience lies a dark truth: factory farming, suffering animals, and a heavy toll on our planet. 🌍   The reality is that 92 billion farmed land animals are exploited for food every year. 83 billion of them are slaughtered for meat, while three-quarters of all farmed animals live in factory farms where they endure cruel conditions and behavioural disorders due to inadequate farming practices. 🐷 Convenience shouldn’t come at this cost.
