Don't use your UK bank card in Dubai Moving to Dubai for real estate? One of the biggest financial mistakes brokers make is using their UK bank card. I’ve spent 9 years in the Dubai real estate finance sector and 4 years as Head of Finance at White & Co Real Estate LLC I’ve seen too many brokers lose money on high transaction fees, poor exchange rates, and the wrong banking setup—before they’ve even closed their first deal. When you’re on a commission-only structure, your savings matter. Every unnecessary charge eats into your finances. Here’s how to avoid it: 1. Before you move – Open a Starling or Revolut account for lower international fees and multi-currency support. 2. Once in Dubai – Get an Al Ansari Travel Card (free, multi-currency, and accepted worldwide). 3. After your visa is processed (3 months in) – Upgrade to an Al Ansari Payroll Card to receive commission payments in multiple currencies with lower deductions. Brokers who don’t plan ahead often realise months later how much money they’ve lost in transaction fees.  I’ve had brokers come to me after seeing hundreds—sometimes thousands—disappear simply because they didn’t switch to the right banking setup from day one. The right financial setup ensures you keep more of what you earn and avoid losing money unnecessarily. Planning ahead means more savings and less stress when you’re getting started. That’s 28km and 35 minutes across the city. Two Ribenas? £7. A Freddo? £1. My old local Italian restaurant? Tripled in price since I last lived there 5 years ago. And as the cost of living rises, so does the tax bill. Capital gains tax? Up to 24% just for selling your own property. Income tax? Let’s not even go there.
